Are you trying to prepare for a singing audition but don't know how to do it? This article will tell you, giving you some very useful tips.
Steps
Step 1. Make sure you want to attend a singing audition
The main problem with singing auditions is that sometimes people are not suited to singing in front of a large audience. Ask yourself the following questions and answer honestly: Am I able to sing? Do I or can I manage to have the courage to perform in front of the public? Do I really want to do it? If the answer is "yes" to most of these questions, you can do it.
Step 2. Gather courage and self-confidence if you don't have enough already
Tell yourself that you can do it. Get encouraged by friends and family, and practice singing in front of them.
- Are you afraid of the stage? Remember: you are a good singer. People should like to hear you sing, and if they don't, their thoughts on you don't have to interest you. It's just a matter of singing. Remember that you are good, but some may not like how you sing. Take deep breaths, hum the melody, clear your throat a few times, and show up for the audition with your back straight, head held high and a big smile. Introduce yourself politely and clearly, and don't forget to look at the audience and smile. Imagine that you are still trying and forgetting that there is an audience. When your audience has finished, smile and say "Thank you", then leave the room with your back straight and with your head held high.
-
When speaking to the audience, keep these tips in mind:
- Dress appropriately. Don't wear clothes that are too fancy or sloppy, but wear something sophisticated and that fits you perfectly.
- Don't keep your arms or hands crossed in front of you. Instead, squeeze them lightly behind your back.
- When talking, try to avoid "um", "ah" or the like. They will make you look nervous and unprofessional.
Step 3. Choose a song, if you haven't already
What kind of voice do you have? Ask a relative or friend what kind of music genre (opera, hip-hop, pop, etc.) your voice is best suited to. Provide a demonstration of how you sing to make them decide. Once you have decided on the right genre, you need to choose a song. Make a list of your favorite songs from that genre. Then, draw a star next to the ones that are famous. Start with the songs with the star nearby, and don't be afraid to experiment. If your computer has a microphone, try recording yourself singing a song with the karaoke backing track. Listen again and see which song is best suited to your voice.
Step 4. Study and memorize the text
If it's one of your favorite songs, you may already know the lyrics. But double-checking them is still a good idea. Listen to the original song several times and try to write down as many words as you can remember. Check them out by listening to the original again and correct any errors. Sing it a couple of times looking at the lyrics you wrote while listening to the song, then try without the paper. You may have to do this several times, checking each time, before you are comfortable singing it without looking at the lyrics. At this point, sing it without the sheet with the instrumental base (karaoke). Try again without the words below, always on the instrumental basis. Then, listen to the base and sing mentally.
Step 5. Before entering to audition, imagine what you will do and say
Stay calm and prepare.
