This article shows you how to find the IP address of a computer, smartphone or tablet and how to find the IP address of a website using any of these devices. Read on to find out how.
Steps
Method 1 of 9: Find Your Public IP Address
Step 1. Log in to the Google website
Use the internet browser of your choice and the URL
Step 2. Type the keywords what is my ip into the Google search bar and hit the Enter key on your keyboard
This will display a list of websites offering this location service. Choose the one that best suits your needs.
Step 3. Make a note of your public IP address
The public IP address of your connection will be displayed at the top of the selected website page. This is the address visible to other web users.
Method 2 of 9: Find the Local IP Address of a Windows Computer
Step 1. Access the "Start" menu by clicking the icon
It features the Windows logo and is located in the lower left corner of the desktop.
Step 2. Launch the Settings app by clicking the icon
It features a gear and is located at the bottom left of the "Start" menu.
Step 3. Choose the "Network and internet" option by clicking the icon
It features a globe and is visible at the top of the "Settings" window.
Step 4. Go to the Status tab
It is located in the upper left of the page.
Step 5. Choose the View Network Properties option
It is located at the bottom of the "Status" tab.
Step 6. Scroll down the list of information to locate the "IPv4 Address" section of the currently active network connection
It should be visible in the center of the page.
Step 7. Make a note of the local IP address of your computer
This is the series of numbers separated by dots visible to the right of the "IPv4 Address" entry.
Method 3 of 9: Find the Local IP address of a Mac
Step 1. Enter the "Apple" menu by clicking the icon
It features the Apple logo and is located in the upper left corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 2. Choose the System Preferences… item
It is one of the options present in the drop-down menu that appeared. The "System Preferences" dialog box will appear.
Step 3. Click the Network icon
It features a small globe and is visible in the center of the "System Preferences" window.
Step 4. Press the Advanced button
It is located in the lower right part of the appeared window.
Step 5. Access the TCP / IP tab
It is visible in the upper left part of the dialog box that appeared.
Step 6. Find the "IPv4 Address" entry
It is located at the top of the window.
Step 7. Make a note of the Mac's local IP address
This is the series of numbers separated by dots visible to the right of the "IPv4 Address" entry.
Method 4 of 9: Find the Local IP address of an iPhone
Step 1. Launch the iPhone Settings app by clicking the icon
It is characterized by a gray colored gear. It is normally visible within the home screen of the device.
Step 2. Choose the Wi-Fi option
It is located at the top of the screen.
Step 3. Tap the name of the network your device is currently connected to
It should be the first connection from the top of the list that appears and should be marked with a small blue check mark.
Step 4. Make a note of the iPhone's local IP address
This is the series of numbers separated by dots visible on the right of the "IP address" item, located in the "IPv4 address" section.
Method 5 of 9: Find the Local IP Address of an Android Device
Step 1. Enter the "Settings" menu of your Android device by clicking the icon
It is characterized by a gear and is located within the "Applications" panel or in one of the pages that make up the Home of the device. Alternatively, you can access the notification bar by sliding your finger down the screen, starting from the top and tapping the gear icon in the upper right corner.
Step 2. Tap the "Wi-Fi" item characterized by the icon
It is visible at the top of the "Settings" menu.
Step 3. Press the ⋮ button
It is located in the upper right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 4. Select the Advanced option
It is one of the options present in the drop-down menu that appeared. The list of advanced Wi-Fi connection settings will be displayed.
Step 5. Make a note of the local IP address of your Android device
This is the series of numbers separated by dots visible on the right of the "IP Address" entry located at the bottom of the page.
Method 6 of 9: Finding the IP Address of a Website Using a Windows System
Step 1. Access the "Start" menu by clicking the icon
It features the Windows logo and is located in the lower left corner of the desktop.
Step 2. Type in command prompt keywords
It will search your computer for the Windows "Command Prompt".
Step 3. Select the "Command Prompt" item by clicking the icon
It should be visible at the top of the search results list.
Step 4. Type the command ping [website_address] into the "Command Prompt" window
Replace the parameter "[website_address]" with the URL of the site you want to test (for example "facebook.com"). Remember not to include the prefix "www." In the address.
Step 5. Press the Enter key
This will execute the "Ping" command and the IP address of the indicated site will be displayed in the "Command Prompt" window.
Step 6. Make a note of the IP address of the tested website
The latter will be displayed in the output of the "Ping" command and precisely to the right of the "Answer from" item, in the form of a series of numbers separated by a period.
Remember that the address identified is the public IP address of the tested website and that it is not possible to trace the local IP address of the server hosting it
Method 7 of 9: Finding a Website's IP Address Using a Mac
Step 1. Enter the Spotlight search field by clicking the icon
It features a magnifying glass and is located in the upper right corner of the screen. A small search bar will appear.
Step 2. Type in the keywords network utility
The "Utility Network" program will search your computer.
Step 3. Select the Utility Network icon
It is visible at the top of the results list that appeared below the Spotlight search field. This will bring up the program window.
Step 4. Go to the Ping tab
It is located at the top of the "Utility Network" window.
Step 5. Enter the URL of the website to be tested
Select the text field located at the top of the window, then enter the URL of the site whose IP address you want to find out (for example "google.com"). Do not include the prefix "www." In the URL.
Step 6. Select the "Send [number] ping only" radio button
By default the "[number]" parameter is set to 10, so that only 10 data packets are sent to the specified URL, but you can enter whatever value you like if you wish.
Step 7. Press the Ping button
It is blue in color and is located on the right side of the window.
Step 8. Make a note of the IP address of the selected site
A series of numbers is displayed next to "[number] bytes from". This is the IP address of the site in question.
Remember that the public IP address of the tested site will most likely be displayed, as it is not normally possible to trace the local IP address of the server hosting it
Method 8 of 9: Finding a Website's IP Address Using an iPhone
Step 1. Download and install the "Ping" application
It is a free program that can be downloaded directly from the App Store. Follow these instructions:

Access the Apple App Store by clicking the following icon

- Select the tab Search for;
- Tap the search bar;
- Type in the keyword ping;
- Press the button Search for;
- Push the button Get placed next to the "Ping - network utility" application;
- When prompted, enter your Apple ID security password.
Step 2. Launch the "Ping" app
Push the button You open appeared next to the app icon "Ping" or select the latter visible within one of the pages that make up the Home of the device. It is characterized by the following green characters> _ placed on a black background.
Step 3. Select the address bar located at the top of the screen
Step 4. Type the URL of the website to be tested
Enter the URL of the site whose IP address you want to find out (for example "google.com") remembering not to include the prefix "www.".
Step 5. Press the Ping button
It is located at the top right of the screen.
Step 6. Make a note of the IP address of the selected site
You will see it appear on the screen at about one second intervals. In this case the "Ping" app will continue to send a data packet to the indicated website with a precise frequency, which is normally about one second. To stop the transmission you will have to manually cancel the execution of the "ping" command.
- To stop executing the "ping" command, press the button Stop located in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Remember that the public IP address of the website indicated will most likely be displayed, as it is normally not possible to trace the local IP address of the server hosting it.
Method 9 of 9: Finding a Website's IP Address Using an Android Device
Step 1. Download and install the "PingTools Network Utility" application
It is a free program that can be downloaded directly from the Google Play Store. Follow these instructions:, tap the search bar, type the keyword phonto, select the app Phonto - Text on Photos from the search results list, press the button Install and finally press the button Accept when required.

Log in to Play Store Google by clicking the icon

- Tap the search bar;
- Type in the keyword pingtools;
- Select the icon PingTools Network Utility;
- Press the 'Install;
- Push the button I accept.
Step 2. Launch the "PingTools Network Utility" app
You can press the button directly You open visible on the Play Store page dedicated to the application or you can tap the icon of the latter located in the "Applications" panel.
Step 3. Press the ☰ button
It is located in the upper left corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 4. Choose the Ping option
It is located approximately in the middle of the drop-down menu that appeared.
Step 5. Type the URL of the website you want to test
To do this, use the address bar located at the top of the screen. Remember not to include the "www." in the site URL.
Step 6. Press the PING button
It is located in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 7. Make a note of the IP address
You'll see it appear under the "Ping [website_url]" header.
