If you know that both of you like something in particular, name the topic without making it seem like you are doing it on purpose, to help them break the ice. Don't disappear, though; join the conversation too. This way they will both feel more comfortable.
Step 6. Once they get comfortable, apologize and go get a drink or say hello to someone you know
