No cat likes to be held still and then see a large drop of liquid enter its eyes. However, even if it seems difficult to you, you don't necessarily have to ask the veterinarian for help. With a little patience and determination, you too can put eye drops on your cat alone.
Steps
Step 1. Place the cat on a table or on your legs
Put your arm around his body to keep him still; or, wrap it in a towel to prevent it from scratching. Get behind the animal to prevent it from falling backwards.
Step 2. Before applying the medicine, make sure the eye area is clean
Clean any secretions with a damp cotton swab.
Step 3. Ointment - gently place a hand on the cat's head so that it opens its eye; keep the tube in an angular position just above the eye without pointing it directly towards the eyeball
Taking care not to touch the eye, squeeze a small amount of product inside it; let the animal close it, then massage gently.
Step 4. Eye drops - keep the cat's eye open as in the previous step
Keep the vial above the eye, then drop a drop into it; let the animal close its eye, making sure it does not rub it with its paws. If necessary, repeat the process and give your cat a treat when finished.
