You may think that special ingredients are needed to create a black nail polish, but you probably already have everything you need. If you are in urgent need of black nail polish, you can get it ready in no time with clear nail polish and black eyeshadow. If you are looking for an all natural alternative, you can try a simple recipe. If you want, you can also create your own nail polish by mixing a black one you already have with other colors in your collection.

Method 1 of 3: Use Eyeshadow
Step 1. Choose black eyeshadow and clear nail polish
Make sure the eyeshadow is a shade of black that you can actually like on your nails.
- If you prefer a matte effect, use a matte nail polish. If you want a pearly effect, choose a pearl nail polish.
- Choose a shiny or matte top coat. The first allows you to get a slightly shiny effect, the second matte.
- You'll also need a container and a stick (like a popsicle or cuticle stick) to mix the ingredients.
Step 2. Having prepared everything you need, scratch the surface of the eyeshadow with the help of the stick and pour it into the container
You will need 1-2 tsp.
For this project, you should buy a special eyeshadow. Alternatively, use one that you can crush without regret
Step 3. If you want to get a matte effect, but don't have a matte top coat, add a couple of teaspoons of cornstarch
- If you want to add cornstarch, do it now.
- Remember that cornstarch may lighten the color slightly. If you want it to be deep black, avoid this ingredient.
Step 4. Next, pour in the top coat and start mixing the ingredients until all lumps are gone and a uniform color is achieved
It will take a few minutes.
Step 5. Transfer the nail polish into an empty vial
Once the ingredients are mixed, the nail polish will be ready to use! Pour it into an empty nail polish bottle and try it out. You can use the top coat vial you emptied for this recipe.
- You can use a funnel or pour it slowly.
- Make sure you leave some space in the bottle to stir the nail polish.
- It is possible that not all the glaze enters the container. In this case, use it right away or throw it away.
Method 2 of 3: Prepare a Natural Black Nail Polish
Step 1. Heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a saucepan over low heat
This will be the base of the glaze.
The oil must be lukewarm, not too hot. Once it has heated up, remove it from the heat
Step 2. Add ½ teaspoon of charcoal powder or eyeshadow to pigment the nail polish
Mix it with the olive oil until you get a homogeneous mixture.
- If you want to create a natural red nail polish, you can also use ½ teaspoon of alcanna powder.
- If the charcoal or eyeshadow doesn't dissolve well in the olive oil, filter the mixture with cheesecloth to avoid getting a grainy texture. Skip this step if the powder has dissolved well.
Step 3. Add 1 g of beeswax
Its function is to fix the polish to the nails. Mix it with the mixture and let it heat for a few minutes, until the wax has melted.
Step 4. Add a few drops of Vitamin E oil
Finally, you can complete the nail polish by adding a few drops of vitamin E oil, extracted from a capsule. In this way the product will also have moisturizing properties. Pierce the capsule with a pin and pour a few drops into the mixture.
Mix the vitamin E oil with the other ingredients until you get a homogeneous mixture
Step 5. Before applying the nail polish, wait for it to cool down for a few minutes
The color may not be as intense as that of a traditional nail polish, but it will be much gentler on the nails.
If it gets on your skin, wipe it off immediately, otherwise it can stain it
Method 3 of 3: Prepare a Custom Black Nail Polish
Step 1. Consider the shade of black you want
You can also try mixing black nail polish with another color to get a unique product. Here are some interesting ideas:
- Black + a few drops of white = greyish black.
- Black + red = black burgundy.
- Black + blue = bluish black.
- Black + silver = metallic black.
Step 2. Mix the colors in a small bowl
Once you have chosen the desired shade, you can mix the black nail polish with the other color. Initially, try to use just a few drops of the second color, then gradually add more until you get the desired shade.
Mix the colors with a popsicle or cuticle stick
