Vertical solariums are an excellent solution for those who want to tan without lying down in an enclosed space contaminated with sweat residues. Just as it is recommended to do with classic tanning lamps, you need to dress appropriately and protect your eyes. To get a tan, just do the treatment for a few minutes twice a week. By taking good precautions and taking care of your skin, you can achieve the desired tan.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Prepare Safely
Step 1. Look for a beauty center that has a good reputation and has vertical solariums
Get in touch with the salons in your area to find out about the services offered. You can also do a search online: the websites of beauty salons often indicate what services they offer and, moreover, on the internet you can read customer reviews.
Ask if it is possible to visit the salon before making an appointment. Make sure the facility is clean and has experienced staff available
Step 2. Ask how the solarium is used
During your visit, take the opportunity to dispel any doubts you have. The representative should tell you which button to press to turn on the lamps or stop the session early. The button to press is a button located on the control panel of the solarium.
The timer is set by the salon managers, so there is no need to learn how to adjust it
Step 3. Before using the solarium, fill out the information form given to you by the beauty center to learn more about your skin type
If you are visiting a salon for the first time, the staff will ask you to provide basic information. In general, you need to describe your skin type, which usually ranges from 1 (i.e. pale skin and more prone to burns) to 6 (i.e. very dark skin). The staff will use this data to set the duration of the session, in order to prevent possible burns.
If the salon does not ask you to fill in any forms, it is best to contact another center
Step 4. Learn about medicines that cause photosynthetic reactions
Before making an appointment, make sure you are not taking any medications that make your skin photosensitive. Search online for a list of medications that can cause side effects during the session. Also, let the salon staff know about the medications you are taking.
For example, NSAIDs such as ibuprofen can cause adverse effects when combined with tanning lamps
Step 5. Avoid applying make-up and deodorants before a tanning session
Remove all traces of product on your skin before entering the solarium. Some cosmetics and perfumes contain ingredients that can sensitize the skin, causing burns. Deodorants often have a sun protection factor that interferes with the tanning process.
Part 2 of 3: Entering a Vertical Solarium
Step 1. Put on a pair of goggles before entering the solarium
The goggles protect the eyes from UV rays and the damage they cause. Typically, salons offer them for free or at a low cost. You can also buy them, but make sure they are specific for solariums and tanning lamps.
Don't be afraid to find yourself with raccoon eyes! The goggles are small in size and only cover the eyes. This means that the skin in the surrounding area will still tan
Step 2. Take off your clothes
Many clients decide to sit in a bathing suit or leave their underwear on. To get the most even tan possible, you may want to undress completely. The choice is yours. There are usually no other people in the room, so you don't have to worry about being seen by anyone.
Most vertical solariums are closed, but there are also open cabins
Step 3. Enter the solarium and spread your legs
Once you enter the solarium, close the door behind you and place yourself in the center. Some solariums have an X on the floor, which shows where to settle down. Spread your legs slightly so that the lamp can work evenly, without neglecting any point.
Vertical solariums are small cabins or rooms. They are therefore perfect for those who suffer from claustrophobia and prefer to avoid the classic tanning beds
Step 4. Press the button on the control panel
The control panel is located inside the cabin, on the wall. Look for a large, circular button. When you are ready to start the session, press the button to turn on the lamps. The lights will stay on until the session ends or you press the button again.
The duration of the session is set by the staff, so you don't have to set it yourself
Step 5. Raise your arms over your head to get an even tan
Some vertical solariums have bars on the ceiling or on the wall, which allow you to grab it with your hands so that the lamps can also tan your armpits. If you don't see any handles, raise your arms to make sure the tan is as even as possible.
- Remember that you can move freely in the vertical solarium, so change the position to get the desired result.
- To avoid getting tired, only raise your arms half the time. Look at the dashboard or count the minutes to determine how long it is to the end of the session.
Step 6. In the beginning, have sessions of up to four minutes in length
Together with the salon staff, you will be able to establish the most suitable duration for your needs. Most initial sessions last around four minutes, but it's best to shorten them if you have particularly fair skin. Once you begin to feel a sensation of heat and discomfort in the skin, press the button on the control panel to finish the session before the set time.
- Gradually increase the length of your sessions as your skin adjusts and you understand how long you can expose it before it starts to burn.
- Most clients don't tan after just one session - that's totally normal.
Part 3 of 3: Maintain Your Tan
Step 1. Avoid using tanning lotions or compresses
Be wary of any lotion or tablet, including those that contain tyrosine. At present, there is no evidence to prove its effectiveness and none of these products have been approved by the relevant authorities.
Many beauty salons sell these products. Don't let yourself be bungled. If you really want to try one, choose a cheaper version at a perfumery or pharmacy
Step 2. Wait at least an hour before washing and use lukewarm water
At the end of the tanning session, it is normal to feel dirty and sticky, but wait at least an hour before taking a shower. Washing immediately does not actually ruin the effects of the tan, but it removes all the products you have applied and slows down the distribution of pigmentation. Hot water should be avoided for the same reason, so lower the temperature.
Step 3. Apply a moisturizer after you exit the shower
Massage the moisturizer into the skin at least once a day to keep the skin smooth and supple, so that the tan lasts longer.
Avoid oil-based moisturizers, as they make your tan visibly less beautiful. Read the label of the cream to find out if it is oil-based
Step 4. Exfoliate your skin once a week with a brush or sponge
Get a body brush or exfoliating sponge - you'll need this to get rid of dead skin. Proceed with extreme care so as not to remove the tan. Take care of rough or patchy areas, which spoil the overall effect and prevent the lamps from penetrating evenly into the epidermis.
Step 5. Drink lots of water to hydrate yourself
If it is deprived of water, the epidermis tends to peel and lose brightness. Keep a bottle of water handy and drink whenever you're thirsty. Also drink at the end of the session to recover the fluids lost due to sweating.
Step 6. Do not have more than two sessions per week
Let the skin rest for at least a couple of days before making other lamps. Waiting a few days between one session and another allows you to maintain a fresh and even tan; limital to protect the skin.
A burn is very different from a tan. If your skin gets burned, let it heal and reduce the duration of the next session
Step 7. If you get burned or observe any other problems, stop the sessions
In addition to being painful, burns make the skin vulnerable to other, more serious conditions, such as a tumor. It also examines the moles to determine if they have changed in size and color. See a dermatologist if you feel unwell or notice any bumps on your skin.
Advice
- Vertical solariums require standing for a few minutes. If you get tired or have health problems that prevent you from standing, try another method of tanning.
- Self-tanning creams do not have a sun protection factor. Before going out, apply an SPF cream to limit your UV exposure.
Warnings
- Regular use of lamps can cause diseases such as tumors and other ailments. Take precautions by having a few sessions a week and allowing your skin to rest sufficiently.
- Forgetting goggles can cause permanent eye damage.
- If you start taking new medicines, remember to do research to make sure they don't have a negative interaction with the lamps.
