A healthy scalp is synonymous with healthy hair. The problem is that it can get dirty due to the accumulation of sebum, sweat and products used for hair care. Cleansing it every 2 to 3 weeks to remove any residue that has built up can help fight itchiness, dryness and dandruff, while also promoting good hair health. How to do? Try using cleansing shampoos and products, natural cleansing remedies, or a targeted scrub.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Cleanse the Scalp with Commercially Available Products
Step 1. Once a month you should wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo
Leave it on for 3 minutes (or for as long as the package recommends). This treatment helps to remove dead cells and all residues left by the sebum or products used.
Clarifying shampoos drain the dye, so use them before you do it again
Step 2. Try a targeted scalp cleansing product
There are several on the market that help purify it, such as exfoliants, washing foams to massage on the affected area and serums that help eliminate dead cells.
- The foam can be applied directly to the hair and massaged into the scalp, without the need to foam. Scrubs help eliminate buildup of product, while serums remove residue left over after cleansing the scalp.
- Some of these products are expensive and only available in specialized stores or on the internet.
Step 3. Clean your scalp, use a nourishing conditioner
During the procedure, the hair is stressed and dried out, so when the treatment is complete it should be nourished with a moisturizing conditioner, which helps to restore it.
- The conditioner should only be applied to the ends, not the scalp or lengths, as it can cause fine hair to go limp.
- You can also replace it with a leave-in conditioner.
Step 4. Establish a cleansing schedule
To take care of your hair properly, you need to perform a deep cleansing of the scalp regularly. The frequency varies according to your hair type. To get started, do this once a month.
- If your scalp has accumulated residue of sebum or hair care products, or you sweat a lot, try to clean it thoroughly every 2 weeks.
- Whether the frequency is weekly, fortnightly or monthly, it must be cleaned regularly.
Method 2 of 3: Clean the Scalp the Natural Way
Step 1. Use vinegar, a gentle product to thoroughly cleanse the scalp
To start, wash your hair as usual. After the final rinse is complete, pour a water and vinegar solution on your scalp. Leave it on for about 5 minutes and rinse with cold water.
Make the solution by mixing 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water
Step 2. Try apple cider vinegar, which helps to have a healthier scalp by eliminating bacteria, viruses and fungi responsible for dryness and dandruff
It also allows you to eliminate excess sebum and residues left by the products used, not to mention that it purifies the scalp.
Mix 60ml of apple cider vinegar with 250ml of water. Pour it into a spray bottle, then spray it on your hair and scalp. Massage it and leave it on for 3-5 minutes. Rinse it off with warm water and shampoo as usual
Step 3. Consider witch hazel water, an astringent that helps remove any residue left on the scalp
You can apply it by massaging a soaked swab on your scalp or by preparing a solution consisting of 1 part of witch hazel water and 2 parts of water. Leave on for a few minutes and then wash your hair.
Choose alcohol-free witch hazel water
Step 4. Prepare a solution and base of castile soap and baking soda
If a lot of product and sebum residues have accumulated on your scalp, you need a stronger preparation. Mix Castile soap with 1 tablespoon of baking soda and massage the solution into your scalp. Leave it on for about 5 minutes.
Rinse it off with warm water and finish with a cold rinse
Method 3 of 3: Exfoliate the Scalp to Clean It Deeply
Step 1. If you want to exfoliate your scalp, try making a sugar, oat and conditioner scrub
Massage it into your scalp in a circular motion after shampooing. Leave it on for a few minutes and rinse it off. It is a treatment particularly suitable for dry hair.
- To make it, mix 2 tablespoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons of oatmeal and 2 tablespoons of conditioner.
- This scrub is also suitable for a sensitive scalp.
Step 2. Make a cinnamon mask, which helps eliminate bacteria from the scalp
Also add some baking soda (which allows you to remove residues of sebum and products) and olive oil (which promotes hydration of the scalp and hair). Massage the mask over the entire scalp and cover your head with a shower cap. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and shampoo.
- To make it, mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 2 tablespoons of olive oil and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon powder.
- This mask is suitable for dry hair.
Step 3. Try a baking soda scrub, which helps cleanse the scalp thoroughly
Add tea tree oil to kill the bacteria responsible for dandruff. Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda, a few drops of tea tree oil and some shampoo. During application make sure you massage the solution into your scalp. It is a treatment particularly suitable for a dry and flaky scalp.
- Remove the solution by rinsing it with warm water.
- If you have dyed hair, don't use it. It should also be avoided in the case of sensitive scalp, as tea tree oil can irritate it.
Step 4. Make a salt scrub, which has good exfoliating properties
Mixed with olive oil and lemon juice it can remove dandruff and other residues from the scalp. Massage the solution for a couple of minutes, then rinse and shampoo.
- To make the scrub, use 2 tablespoons of sea salt, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
- Avoid it if you have a sensitive scalp: salt and lemon juice can irritate it.
