A lemon tree is a very beautiful ornamental plant, and growing it using a seed is not difficult. The seed will sprout after about a month and can be transplanted into the soil, so get yourself a lemon, a pot and some potting soil to get started!
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Hot Water and Compost
Step 1. Cut the lemon in half
Extract the seeds. Remember they are slippery. Dry them with kitchen paper, removing as much pulp as possible to prevent spoilage.
Step 2. Fill a glass with hot water
Pour the seeds into the glass and place it in a warm place for a day. Dry the seeds again. This step is to remove the residual pulp from the surface of the seeds.
Step 3. Get a pot full of compost
Make a hole with a pencil, about 1 or 2 centimeters deep, and simply pour the seeds into the holes. Lightly cover with compost.
Step 4. Water the seeds and place the pot in a warm, sunny place
You should see them sprout in a month or two.
Method 2 of 2: Alternative Method: Bag Germination
Step 1. Peel the lemon seeds
Remove the outer white layer of the seed to reveal the brown one.
Step 2. Now remove the brown layer as well
Step 3. Place the seeds on a damp, not wet cloth
Step 4. Place the wet cloth containing the seeds in a plastic bag
You will need to store the bag in a warm and very sunny place.
Step 5. You should see sprouts appear within 1 to 2 weeks
Transplant the shoots into good quality potting soil.
Advice
- Use a deep pot as lemons have long roots.
- Compost must always be kept moist but not wet.
