Soap bubbles made with corn syrup and dish soap last longer than normal bubbles and tend to burst less easily. Very few things are enough to make them. Mix the ingredients carefully, you can have fun playing with soap bubbles whenever you want.
Ingrediants
- Half a cup of corn syrup
- 3 cups of distilled water
- 1 cup of dish soap
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Mix the Ingredients
Step 1. Measure liquids
Get a measuring cup to measure corn syrup, water, and dish soap. Pour them into separate bowls and set aside.
- You can use distilled or tap water.
- If you don't have detergent, go buy it before you start. Corn syrup is available at the supermarket or on the internet.
Step 2. Pour the ingredients into a bowl in the correct order
The order in which you pour the ingredients into the bowl is very important to this process. Add the water first, then the detergent, and finally the corn syrup.
Step 3. Mix the ingredients very slowly
No blisters should form during the procedure. If you mix too quickly, the bubbles will start forming prematurely. Slowly blend the ingredients until you get a homogeneous mixture. This means it should take on a uniform color and texture.
Mix the ingredients with a spoon
Part 2 of 3: Creating the Bubbles
Step 1. Prepare the pipette
Get a plastic pipette. You can buy it at a store that sells DIY or home improvement items. Cut off the tip of the wide end of the pipette (i.e. the closed part) using a pair of scissors.
- Make sure you only cut the tip of the wide end. Since you will be immersing the pipette in the solution, try not to cut the wide part completely. Once the procedure is complete, you can use it to make soap bubbles.
- The pipette can be replaced with a straw.
Step 2. Immerse the pipette in the solution
Insert the tip of the larger end of the pipette into the mix. You have to insert it only once quickly and gently so that the solution is evenly distributed on the tube.
The tip of the pipette should be covered with a layer of solution, similar to the glass panel of a window. Re-immerse the tube in the mixture if you are unable to cover it entirely on the end
Step 3. Create the bubbles
Place your lips on the opposite end of the pipette. Gently blow into the tube: a bubble should form, which will then burst -
Make sure you blow slowly into the pipette. If you do this too quickly, the bubble may burst before it even forms
Step 4. Play with the bubbles
You can start playing with bubbles once you have created all the ones you want. Bounce them in your hands or throw them around the room. Bubbles prepared with this method should not break or burst as fast as normal ones.
Remember that no bubble lasts forever. Blisters tend to break over time, but this should last you longer than usual
Part 3 of 3: Remedying Possible Problems
Step 1. Distill the water
Some people find that the minerals in tap water negatively affect the quality of bubbles. For this project, it may be necessary to buy distilled water. If you can't find it, you can make it at home. Pour the water into a large saucepan with a glass lid. Do not fill it more than a third of its capacity.
- Place a small glass bowl in the center of the pot, then place the lid upside down, i.e. with the handle in the water.
- Bring the water to a boil. Once it starts to boil, turn the heat down to low to simmer. Ask an adult for help if needed. Put some ice cubes in the lid. In this way, water will form inside it and drip into the bowl.
- Keep an eye on the pot, adding more ice cubes as they melt. Fill the bowl, remove it and use the water inside to make the bubbles.
Step 2. Experiment with different types of dish soap
Not all of them can achieve the same effect. To make bubbles, be prepared for the chance to experiment with different brands of detergent. Try using a different product in case you don't get the desired result.
Step 3. Set the solution aside for stronger bubbles
The mixture can be stored and then used for up to 2 days. In general, the longer you keep it aside, the longer it will last you. If you are not satisfied with the final result, try redoing the solution and let it sit for some time before creating bubbles.
Step 4. Blow bubbles on hot days
In general, hot and humid days allow for better results. Although it is possible to use the solution regardless of the climate, the bubbles should last longer in the warm months.
