Liquid and foamy hand soaps are easy to use and definitely more hygienic than blocks. In addition to keeping the proliferation of bacteria under control, they prevent various dermatological diseases. However, commercially available products can be expensive and harmful to the environment. Making soap at home is simple, fast and inexpensive.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Make a Foamy Soap with a Gel Product
Step 1. Buy or recycle an empty bottle with a metering pump
Plastic or glass bottles are available at the supermarket and on the internet at a low price. If you want to make a nice gesture for the environment or save money, you can wash and recycle an old package rather than buying another.
- Choose a bottle that is resistant and pleasing to the eye. Remember that you will have to use it for a long time.
- If possible, try a few bottles. Make sure the metering pump is working well and look for a solid container that can withstand any drops.
Step 2. Buy a refill pack of gel soap
Washing your hands can damage the skin. If you suffer from dryness, irritation, itching, or cracking, look for a hypoallergenic or fragrance-free soap.
- Examine the label. Most allergic reactions are due to the following ingredients: quaternary ammonium, iodine, iodophore, chlorhexidine, triclosan, chloroxylenol and alcohol.
- Look for a soap that contains moisturizing ingredients to protect the skin on your hands.
Step 3. Mix the ingredients
Pour tap water into the empty bottle until one third is full. Then, add the gel soap until it fills another third of the bowl. Shake well to mix the gel and water to form a liquid. Secure the dosing pump again.
- The water must be poured into the bottle first, otherwise foam will form.
- Do not fill the bottle with water more than two thirds, otherwise the liquid will overflow when you fix the metering pump.
- If the dosing pump does not return to the starting position, rub some petroleum jelly on the shaft to recover the original movement.
- The solution must be diluted enough to flow through the pump. If it gets clogged, clean it and add more water to the mixture.
Method 2 of 2: Make a Foamy Soap Scented with Essential Oils
Step 1. Buy the right ingredients
In addition to the empty bottle with a dosing pump, you will need a fragrance-free liquid soap and essential oils, which appear to have various therapeutic properties. The latter will determine the color and fragrance of the final product.
- Make sure you use a fragrance-free soap, otherwise it will predominate over the mild smell of essential oils.
- Essential oils can be found in herbal shops. There is a wide range of colors and fragrances, such as orange, rosemary, violet, etc.
- According to the principles of aromatherapy, essential oils are therapeutic. While some benefits have been proven, others are exaggerated.
Step 2. Prepare the room where you will make the soap
Cover your work surface with a plastic tablecloth. Try to prepare it near a sink. Wear an apron to avoid staining your clothes and put on a pair of gloves if you have sensitive hands. Have a roll of kitchen paper available - it will come in handy if you spill water on the table or floor.
Be especially careful with essential oils - they tend to stain very easily and are quite difficult to remove
Step 3. Mix the ingredients
Pour the tap water into the empty bottle until it is one third full, then add the gel soap filling another third. Add a teaspoon of essential oils and mix until smooth. Secure the metering pump.
- If the scent is not intense enough, add another teaspoon of essential oils. Don't use too many at once: as well as being expensive, they have a very strong fragrance.
- You can also change the color by adding food coloring. Always use natural products to avoid coming into contact with potentially harmful chemicals.
