Step 5. Interception

Team B tries to regain possession of the puck. This is done by grabbing the disc or dropping it to the ground. However, if a member of Team A does not receive the pass, possession of the puck passes to Team B. As it is not a contact sport, the members of Team B must block the puck, not the opponents.

Advice

  • The regulation field is a 64m x 36.5m rectangle with two goal areas 22.5m deep, for a total length of 109m.
  • The measures indicated above are the regulatory ones but, as happens for many other types of sports, they can vary significantly when a game is played with friends (the same goes for the number of players). The field can be delimited by lines, objects placed on the ground or natural reference points (such as the position of trees).
  • Before the start of the game, you can decide whether or not to give a time limit for each throw. A count is started when a player has to make a pass; if the player in question takes too long to get rid of the puck, the closest opponent can start counting. If no pass is made within 10 seconds, the puck passes to the opposing team.
  • When a player plays his first game (or is not that good at throwing) it is best to advise him to make short passes, so that the puck does not leave the playing field or be intercepted by a member of the opposing team.
  • Throwing technique n ° 1. Basic throw: put your index and middle fingers under the disc, near the edge. Bend both fingers to get more grip on the disc. Rotate your body towards the throwing hand, step forward with your dominant foot and rotate forward. When facing front, take a flick of the wrist and let the puck go in the direction of the pass. Try to keep the disc parallel to the ground throughout the entire procedure!
  • Throwing technique n ° 2. Throw from the hip: place the index and middle fingers under the disc and fold them against the edge. Put your thumb on top. Rotate your body slightly towards the disc and snap your wrist to release it. Try to rotate your hand towards your body as you throw to give enough rotational motion to the disc. This is a very useful pass when challenged by another player, but it needs some practice.
  • Throwing technique n ° 3. Overhead Throw: This type of throw is generally left to experienced players and, if done randomly, is almost always ineffective. It looks like throwing an American football. Place your index and middle fingers under the disc and put your thumb on top. Do not bend the index and middle fingers. As you would with a balloon, lift the disc above your head and angle it towards the latter at 50-55 degrees. Maintaining the angle, throw the disc forward and upwards. The disc should fly perpendicular to the ground for a couple of seconds and then flip over and glide gently downward. This type of pass is a bit difficult to receive, but it can be useful against the most grim defenses.

Warnings

  • Don't forget to drink and keep yourself hydrated.
  • The disc is made of rigid plastic. Getting hit on the shinbone, hand or head can leave bad bruises.
  • As with any other sport, the risk of injury is always present if you do not play with due caution.
