Minor injuries, abrasions, and burns sometimes happen at less than appropriate times. You may find it helpful to know how to prevent an infection in the absence of a pharmaceutical disinfectant. This solution involves the use of simple common ingredients.
Ingrediants
- Bottled water (about 180ml)
- 1 tablespoon of table salt
- 1 teaspoon of vinegar (alternatively, freshly squeezed lemon juice)
Steps
Step 1. Pour the bottled water into a perfectly clean glass beaker
Step 2. Add the salt
You can use iodized salt. Table salt is ideal. It is known for its multiple antibacterial properties.
Step 3. Stir until the salt is completely dissolved in the water
Step 4. Add the vinegar and mix carefully
You can use a vinegar of your choice. Vinegar contains a mild acetic acid, capable of cleaning and disinfecting wounds. If you don't have vinegar available, replace it with fresh lemon juice.
Step 5. Soak a cotton ball in the disinfectant and apply it to the injured part of the skin
It is preferable to open a sealed wadding package.
Step 6. After use, discard the disinfectant
It is not suitable for storage, neither at room temperature nor in the refrigerator. Whenever you need it again, repeat the preparation of the mixture.
Advice
- Remember that this is a single use disinfectant, it cannot be used later.
- You can also use a mouthwash or aftershave.
- To disinfect the eyes, you can use a slightly boric acid.
Warnings
- This disinfectant can cause pain during application.
- Abrasions and cuts caused by metal or rusty objects should be treated by medical personnel. In these cases, do not resort to a do-it-yourself solution.
- If there are no clear signs of healing, consult a doctor, an antibiotic may need to be taken.
- If the cut or wound is severe or deep, seek medical help immediately.
