Jojoba oil is a liquid wax extracted from a native shrub in the southwestern area of North America. It has a low degree of comedogenicity and possesses therapeutic properties. Using it to wash and moisturize the face can therefore give good results to acne sufferers. If you have moderate to severe acne, you may want to consult a dermatologist before using this product.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Wash Face with Jojoba Oil
Step 1. Test jojoba oil on the skin
On a scale of 0 to 5, it has a degree of comedogenicity of 2. This means that in some cases it can cause acne. It is therefore important to test it on a limited area of the face before using it.
To see if it can irritate your skin, try it on a small area of your cheek, making sure it's clean. Repeat for 3 days, then discontinue use for a week. After 7 days check the area to see if blackheads, whiteheads or pimples have appeared. If it is clean, you can try using it for longer periods
Step 2. Use your fingertips to apply jojoba oil and wash your face
Moisten the skin with warm water and apply a couple of drops of oil with the help of your fingertips. Make circular movements to make it penetrate the skin.
- Do not use sponges, as they can irritate the skin and cause further problems.
- Do not rub the skin. This can leave permanent scars and the skin will take longer to heal.
Step 3. Rinse your face with warm water
After washing your skin with jojoba oil, you will need to proceed with rinsing. Eliminate excess product from the face by rinsing it with warm water.
Step 4. Blot your face with a clean cotton towel
Rinse off any excess product, pat the skin with a clean cotton towel. Don't rub. Just dab it until it is completely dry.
Step 5. Wash your face at least twice a day
To fully exploit the benefits of jojoba oil in treating acne, it must be used to wash the face at least 2 times a day, more precisely in the morning and in the evening.
Wash your face even in case of profuse sweating. For example, if you have been doing sports or working in the garden, you will need to repeat the washing
Method 2 of 3: Cleanse the Skin with a Steam Bath and Moisturize it
Step 1. Start the treatment with clean skin
Make sure your face is clean and make-up-free before you start taking a steam bath. Do not apply jojoba oil to moisturize the skin without washing it first.
Step 2. Choose an essential oil to use for the steam bath
Many essential oils have antibacterial and / or antiseptic properties. They therefore eliminate the bacteria and other microorganisms that infect the skin and cause the release of pimples. Using them can help prevent impurities from forming. Try one of the following types:
- Spearmint or peppermint. Both types contain menthol, which has antiseptic properties and can strengthen the immune system;
- Thyme strengthens the immune system and has antibacterial properties. It also improves blood circulation, as it dilates blood vessels;
- Calendula accelerates healing and has antimicrobial properties;
- Lavender is soothing and can help fight anxiety and depression. It also has antibacterial properties.
Step 3. Test the essential oil on the skin
Before using essential oils, you must always try them on a limited area of the skin. Since they are extracted from plants and many people suffer from allergies or sensitivities, it is possible to have adverse reactions. These reactions are often manifested by a mild rash sometimes accompanied by itching.
To test the oil on your skin, pour a drop on your wrist and wait 10-15 minutes. If there is no irritation, you should be able to use it safely
Step 4. Take a 1 liter pot, fill it with water and bring it to a boil
Heat the water until it boils, then turn off the heat and pour 1-2 drops of essential oil into it. Never bring your face close to water during the boiling process!
Step 5. Cover your head with a large, clean cotton towel
Pour the oils into the water, cover your head with a towel and bring your face close to the pot. Make sure you close your eyes and keep your face at least 30cm away from the surface of the water. The heat should dilate blood vessels and open pores, but getting too close can damage your skin.
- Breathe normally and relax!
- Let the steam work for 10 minutes.
- Rinse your face with warm water and pat it dry with a cotton towel. Do not rub the skin, just pat it gently to dry it.
Step 6. Apply jojoba oil to moisturize the skin
Use enough quantity to guarantee a homogeneous application. Massage it with your fingertips making small circular movements.
Initially it is possible to use this method 2 times a day. After 2 weeks you should see improvement. At that point, you can start taking a steam bath once a day
Method 3 of 3: Using Other Methods
Step 1. See a dermatologist
If your skin shows no signs of improvement after 1-2 weeks of use, then make an appointment with a dermatologist. A specialist will be able to recommend other approaches to treating blackheads, whiteheads, or pimples, such as using benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid products.
If you have moderate to severe acne, see your dermatologist before trying jojoba oil for professional advice. This product can make it worse in some cases
Step 2. Choose low glycemic index foods
In the case of some people there are foods that can increase the predisposition to suffer from acne, as they cause an increase in inflammation and create a prolific environment for bacteria. According to some studies, foods with a low glycemic index reduce the severity of the disorder. Low glycemic index (GI) foods release glucose into the blood more slowly. Here are some of them:
- Bran flakes, muesli, oat flakes;
- Whole grains, pumpernickel, wholemeal bread;
- Most vegetables, except beetroot, squash, and parsnips
- Dried fruit;
- Most fruit, except watermelon and dates;
- Legumes;
- Yogurt;
- Brown rice, barley and wholemeal pasta.
Step 3. Get more nutrients that are good for your skin
You can also make sure you are getting nutrients that help keep skin healthy. It seems that the most important vitamins for the skin are A and D. Furthermore, consuming enough omega-3 fatty acids can benefit acne sufferers.
- Some foods rich in vitamin A: sweet potatoes, spinach, carrots, squash, broccoli, red peppers, summer squash, cantaloupe, mangoes, apricots, black-eyed peas, beef liver, herring, salmon;
- Some foods rich in vitamin D: cod liver oil, salmon, tuna, milk, yogurt, cheese;
- Some foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids: flaxseed and flaxseed oil, chia seeds, walnuts, salmon, sardines, mackerel, white fish, alosa, basil, oregano, cloves, marjoram, spinach, sprouts of radish, Chinese broccoli.
Step 4. Don't wear makeup
Acne can get worse with makeup, so avoiding using it for some time can help improve the situation. Make-up can clog pores and even cause irritation. If you wear makeup, be sure to use non-comedogenic products. Cosmetics with this characteristic tend to cause less breakouts.
Step 5. Finished
Advice
- Do not teasing, squeezing, or touching blackheads or pimples. This can cause inflammation, scarring, and longer healing times.
- Avoid exposing yourself to the sun and don't get lamps. The sun and lamps can damage skin cells due to harmful UVB rays.
