Baking soda is an inexpensive, effective and natural ingredient that nourishes, protects and heals the skin, so it's excellent for making a facial. You can simply mix it with water or you can combine it with cleanser or other natural ingredients. Put into practice the tips in the article to cleanse the skin of the face with baking soda.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Prepare and Use a Simple Scrub with Baking Soda
Step 1. Start with a clean face
Before you can do the baking soda treatment, you need to make sure your skin is clean and your pores free of dirt and oils. Wash your face using warm water and your usual cleanser.
Step 2. Make a scrub with water and baking soda
You need three teaspoons of baking soda and one teaspoon of water. Blend the two elements together until you get a thick paste. Baking soda is excellent for exfoliating the skin in a gentle but effective way; in addition, it is a natural antifungal and antibacterial, therefore it is perfect for fighting pimples and blackheads.
You can buy baking soda at any supermarket. Just make sure it's 100% pure
Step 3. Massage the scrub into the facial skin with your fingers
If you prefer, you can use a soft, slightly wet cloth. Avoid the areas where the skin is most sensitive, around the eyes and lips, focusing instead on the places where blackheads usually develop, for example on the nose. Continue massaging your face with the baking soda paste for about five minutes, but be careful not to rub your skin too hard.
Step 4. Rinse your face with warm water
Make sure you have removed all traces of baking soda. Its grains are tiny and could get trapped in the brow hair.
Step 5. Dry your face
Use a soft, clean towel to gently pat your skin dry. Avoid rubbing it.
Step 6. Complete the treatment by applying the toner and moisturizer
The tonic serves to restore the pH balance of the skin and to favor the closing of the pores, while the cream keeps the skin soft and elastic, thus making it even more beautiful.
Step 7. You can repeat the treatment regularly as part of your beauty routine
Your skin will certainly benefit from a gentle exfoliation performed at regular intervals, for example once or twice a week. Instead, avoid using baking soda every day.
Method 2 of 3: Prepare and Use an Exfoliating Mask with Baking Soda
Step 1. Start with clean skin
Wash your face with warm water and your usual cleanser. After rinsing it thoroughly, gently pat the skin with a soft, clean towel to dry it.
Step 2. Make a cup of chamomile tea
Infuse one sachet in about 50ml of boiling water. Cover the cup with a saucer to prevent the essential oils from dispersing into the air and wait 5-10 minutes. You have to get a concentrated infusion to use it on the skin. Once ready, let it cool completely before adding it to the rest of the ingredients.
Step 3. Grind some rolled oats in the blender
You need about 40 grams and you need to turn them into thin flour. In this beauty recipe, oats are responsible for purifying and moisturizing the skin while gently exfoliating it.
Step 4. Prepare the base of the mask using oatmeal, baking soda and a little honey
In addition to the oatmeal, you'll need a teaspoon of baking soda and a tablespoon of raw honey. Mix the three ingredients in a bowl until you get a smooth, doughy mixture.
If you want to increase the exfoliating power of the scrub, you can also add two tablespoons of granulated sugar
Step 5. Add the chamomile tea
The mixture you made will be a little too thick to use as a mask, so you'll need to dilute it using chamomile. Start by adding a couple of tablespoons, then mix to evaluate the result. If the mixture is still too thick, add some more. Do this until the consistency of the mask is correct. You will need to be able to spread it easily on your face, but at that point you will have to avoid dripping.
Step 6. Prepare your face to receive the treatment
Moisten the skin with a little water. Before starting, it is best to remove the hair from the face by using a headband or by gathering it behind the head and wear an old shirt or protect the clothes with a towel to avoid getting them dirty. For convenience, you can apply the mask when you are in the shower or bath.
Step 7. Gently massage the mask on your face
Apply it to the skin using your fingers or a soft, damp cloth. Avoid the areas where the skin is most sensitive, around the eyes and lips. Leave the mask on for about 5 minutes.
Step 8. Rinse the skin
Spray your face with warm water and massage it gently to remove the mask. If there is any honey residue left on the skin, you can remove it using your usual cleanser.
Step 9. If desired, you can complete the treatment by applying the toner and moisturizer
The tonic serves to restore the pH balance of the skin and promote the closure of the pores, while the cream keeps the skin soft and supple.
Method 3 of 3: Prepare and Use a Honey Treatment
Step 1. Start with washing your face
Before starting the treatment, you must make sure that the skin is clean and the pores free from dirt and oils. Wash your face using warm water and your usual cleanser, then rinse your skin thoroughly and pat it dry gently with a soft, clean towel.
Step 2. Dampen a face cleansing cloth
Wet it with hot water and then squeeze it well; it must be moist, but not soggy or runny.
Step 3. Pour some honey on one corner of the damp cloth
Use half a teaspoon of raw honey. In addition to moisturizing and nourishing the skin, honey is capable of killing the bacteria that cause pimples and blackheads to form.
Step 4. Add some baking soda
Half a teaspoon will be enough to make the honey slightly abrasive so that it gently exfoliates the skin.
Step 5. Blend the two ingredients to form a paste
You can use your fingers or, more simply, you can fold the corner of the cloth up on the two ingredients and massage until it forms a paste.
Step 6. Wet your face and massage it gently with the mixture on the washcloth
Try to apply it evenly all over your face, avoiding only the area around the eyes and lips, where the skin is most sensitive. Avoid rubbing too hard to avoid irritating the skin.
Step 7. Rinse your face when done
Spray it with hot water and massage it to remove honey and baking soda from the skin.
Step 8. Make a toner
You need about 60ml of water and three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Pour both ingredients into a clean bottle, then shake it to mix. The baking soda may have altered the pH of your skin, but luckily, using apple cider vinegar is enough to restore its balance.
- This tonic is perishable and should be stored in the refrigerator.
- Consider adding five drops of rosemary essential oil to your apple cider vinegar toner to take advantage of its antibacterial and preservative properties.
Step 9. Apply the toner
Moisten a cotton pad and rub it gently all over your face, focusing especially on the forehead, cheekbones and nose. Avoid areas where the skin is most sensitive, such as around the eyes and lips.
Advice
- The scrub can also be used as a mask by spreading it on the face and leaving it to act for about 30 minutes. Simply avoid the areas where the skin is most sensitive, i.e. around the eyes and lips.
- Almost any cleanser can become an exfoliant with the simple addition of a little baking soda. The next time you wash your face, mix half a teaspoon into the cleanser and use it to cleanse and exfoliate your skin.
- In addition to fighting acne, baking soda can improve skin conditions even in the case of eczema or psoriasis.
- You can also use baking soda to soothe your face skin in case of sunburn or insect bites.
Warnings
- Don't scrub your face too hard when using baking soda, or it may get irritated.
- Baking soda can irritate sensitive skin. You can perform a preventive test by applying the scrub or mask to the inside of the elbow and leaving it on for a few minutes. If no irritation develops, you can safely use it on your face as well.
- If your skin feels itchy while using baking soda on your face, rinse it off immediately with plenty of water.
