Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure, but the skin will be particularly sensitive in the days following the treatment. Pamper her a little after exfoliation to help her heal and look her best. Avoid substances that can irritate her, try different remedies to relieve her, and don't hesitate to ask your doctor for help if she doesn't heal as it should.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Appease Irritations
Step 1. Cleanse and moisturize your skin
Wash your face immediately after the treatment. It is important to remove the crystals left on the skin. Wash and dry your face by gently dabbing it with a clean towel. In the hours that follow, make sure you keep your skin hydrated.
Use a rich texture moisturizer for 4-6 days after your treatment to prevent excessive flaking
Step 2. If possible, do not expose yourself to direct sunlight
Apply protective sunscreen every 3 hours or so until the skin has healed. Also wear a hat and sunglasses when outdoors. Use a moisturizer with an SPF of 30 or higher for effective protection from ultraviolet rays.
- Use a sunscreen with 5-10% zinc or titanium or 3% Mexoryl.
- Consult your dermatologist if you wish to take additional precautions.
- Continue to take care of your skin even after it has healed. Use an extra SPF-equipped moisturizer every day, apply sunscreen before going outside, and put on a hat and sunglasses.
- Test the sunscreen on the body to rule out possible allergic reactions. Purchase a cream suitable for sensitive skin and test it on the body before applying it to the area treated with microdermabrasion.
Step 3. Allow 24 hours to pass before making any effort
Get back to your regular routine, but avoid doing intense physical activity in the 24 hours following your microdermabrasion treatment. Give your body time to heal. Do not go swimming in the pool for at least a couple of days because the chlorine contained in the water tends to dehydrate the skin considerably.
Step 4. Avoid beauty treatments and products that can irritate the skin
Wait at least a week before shaving the treated area. Check the ingredients of the cosmetics you use regularly and avoid those that contain glycolic acid, tretinoin, synthetic fragrances or a high percentage of alcohol. Avoid all products that include these substances for at least two days after treatment.
- Avoid using any type of harsh chemicals for a week. Don't use makeup for at least a couple of days; if you wish, you can make up your eyes and lips, but don't use foundation, powder, etc.
- Do not make the lamp for at least a week.
Step 5. Do not touch the treated skin
Keep your hands away from the area where the skin has been made sensitive by microdermabrasion to prevent oils and bacteria from irritating it. Wash your hands thoroughly before applying moisturizer or sunscreen to minimize contact with oils and bacteria. It also avoids scratching or pinching the skin.
Step 6. Leave at least a week between sessions
Give your skin time to recover after the treatment. You can schedule multiple appointments, but at least 7 days apart. After the first few sessions, you may want to slow down further.
Step 7. Eat healthily
After the treatment, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water to keep your body healthy and skin hydrated. Also be careful not to sweat too much.
Method 2 of 3: Soothe the Skin
Step 1. Use your moisturizer regularly
Reapply it at least twice a day: in the morning and in the evening before going to sleep. Always apply it before makeup to make sure it acts as a protective barrier. If you are unsure which product to choose to promote skin healing following microdermabrasion treatment, ask your doctor or dermatologist for advice.
Drink lots of water. It is important to moisturize the skin from the inside as well as from the outside
Step 2. Soothe the irritation
After the treatment, you may feel that your skin has been exposed to the sun or wind for a long time. Rinse her with cold water to soothe and cool her. You can also massage it with an ice cube or use a cold compress. Reuse cold water or ice whenever you feel the need.
You will feel like your skin is inflamed by the sun or the wind, this is normal. Symptoms usually go away within 24 hours
Step 3. Ask your dermatologist if you can use an anti-inflammatory or pain reliever ointment
It is essential to have the doctor's consent before applying any drug to treated skin. Follow the dosage instructions carefully to prevent the ointment from further irritating the skin or causing pinpoint skin bleeding (petechiae). Wash your face with a very mild cleanser before applying the ointment.
Method 3 of 3: Ask the Doctor for Help
Step 1. Contact your doctor if your skin is bleeding
If you notice that petechiae, or pinpoint skin hemorrhages, have formed, it means that there is bleeding under the surface of the skin. The presence of cutaneous purpura, that is, small dark red spots that do not lighten if you squeeze them, indicates that subcutaneous hemorrhages are in progress. Contact your doctor either way.
Do not try to calm the inflammation by taking aspirin as it can aggravate the problem of petechiae or skin purpura
Step 2. Monitor the stages of healing
Look for any changes in your skin, such as how redness and swelling change. Keep track of how long each symptom lasts and call your doctor if your skin is still swollen or red after 3 days.
Also contact your doctor if redness or swelling appears 2-3 days after treatment. By then the skin should be almost healed
Step 3. See your doctor if you feel pain
If the pain is severe or persistent, notify your doctor immediately. Contact him even if the irritation does not subside within 3 days. Be prepared to describe the symptoms and activities that may have caused the pain or inflammation. This way your doctor can advise you on the best remedy.
