Puffed rice bars are a real treat, easy to prepare and store. Once you have cut them, you can stack them in an airtight container. Slip a piece of wax paper between each layer to prevent them from sticking together, then close the container. You can store them at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze them for up to 6 weeks. Read on to learn more!
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Storage at Room Temperature
Step 1. Cut the puffed rice bars into individual squares
Try to get small squares, as they offer greater convenience at the time of consumption. Do you have a lot of bars left over? Cut them into larger pieces that can fit into a large airtight container.
Step 2. Place leftovers in an airtight container or bag
Choose a container that allows you to store any leftovers without leaving too much space at the top. When there is little air in the container, the bars stay fresh longer. Stack them in the container or bag in a single layer. Remove excess air (in the case of the bag), then seal the container or bag tightly.
In containers you can create multiple layers, while in bags you can only keep one or two bars
Step 3. Slip a sheet of wax paper between each layer to prevent them from sticking together
The wax paper will act as a cushion, preventing the bars from sticking together. Measure the dimensions of the container or bag, then cut the wax paper so that it fits in smoothly.
Step 4. Store the bars at room temperature for up to 3 days
Keep the container on the kitchen counter, in a cupboard, or anywhere else where it can be stored at room temperature. The ambient temperature is usually understood as that between 18 and 23 ° C. After 3 days, you should throw away the old bars and make new ones.
Step 5. Eat the bars as soon as possible to fully enjoy their taste and texture
If you wait too long, they will lose their typical soft, caramelized texture. When they go bad, in fact, they become hard. Make sure you eat them right away to savor them at their best.
Method 2 of 2: Long-Term Storage in the Freezer
Step 1. Cut the puffed rice bars into homogeneous squares
Prepare the rice bars, cut them with a knife before storing them. This way each individual piece will freeze evenly and it will be easier to remove individual portions from the freezer.
Step 2. Place the bars in an airtight container or freezer bag
Do you use a container? Layer the bars and close it well. Freezer bags are a good alternative for those who can't find a suitable sized container or prefer to avoid occupying a container for extended periods. Just fill a freezer bag with a layer or two of bars, remove excess air and close it carefully.
- In the case of the container, choose a plastic or tempered glass one to store the bars.
- Look for an appropriately sized container to avoid leaving too much space on top. By eliminating excess air, the bars will stay fresh longer.
Step 3. Slip a piece of wax paper between one layer of bars and the other to prevent them from sticking together
Measure the container or bag, then cut the wax paper to a similar size. This will make it much easier to stack the bars and close the container.
Step 4. Use a piece of masking tape to mark the date on the container
Make sure you stick some tape on the jar and write the date you keep the bars, so that in the future you can know if they are fresh. The labels will help you quickly determine if they are edible or not.
Step 5. Place the container in the freezer and store the bars for up to 6 weeks
The bars will stay fresh for 6 weeks, then they are likely to start losing moisture and hardening. Throw them away if you find a container with a label that dates back more than 6 weeks.
Step 6. Let the bars thaw for 15 minutes before eating them
Remove the bars from the freezer and let them thaw at room temperature for a quarter of an hour before eating or serving. The defrosting process allows to recover the original consistency.
