This tasty recipe is easy to make whenever you feel like sweet. It will allow you to make simple and delicious vanilla cookies, without the need to add elaborate ingredients.
The doses of this recipe make it possible to obtain about 3 dozen vanilla cookies
Ingrediants
- 170 g of flour
- 2 g of baking powder
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- 170 g butter (at room temperature)
- 200 g of sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Steps
Part 1 of 5: Preparation
Step 1. Prepare the work surface
Free up counter space and prepare all the utensils you will need. Before you begin, clean your work surface with a cloth or tea towel.
Step 2. Arrange the oven rack
For even cooking, place the wire rack in the center of the oven and bake one cookie sheet at a time.
If you are going to bake 2 trays, it would be ideal to place the racks in such a way as to divide the oven into thirds. Then, halfway through cooking, change places and rotate them so that the back is facing forward
Step 3. Preheat the oven to 190 ° C
It takes several minutes for it to get hot, so to save time, heat it up while you make the cookie dough.
Step 4. Line the baking sheets
Line the baking sheets with a sheet of parchment or wax paper and set them aside. This step is important to prevent the cookies from sticking together during cooking.
Part 2 of 5: Making the Dough
Step 1. In a large bowl, mix sugar and butter
Beat them until the mixture is soft and light.
- Is the butter solid? Use the prongs of a fork to press it and mix it with the sugar.
- It is not possible to mix the butter evenly if it is cold or frozen. Wait for it to come to room temperature or heat it until it softens.
Step 2. Use a rubber spatula to scoop up the dough residues from the sides of the bowl
This step must be performed every time you add a new ingredient.
Step 3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract
Use 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract if you prefer the cookies to have a more intense flavor.
Blend the ingredients in the bowl using a whisk or electric mixer for about 1 minute or until smooth
Step 4. Add the flour, salt and baking powder separately
Incorporate each ingredient individually before adding the next.
- Collect residual dough from the sides and bottom of the bowl with a rubber spatula between each addition.
- Mix until you get a smooth and homogeneous dough.
Step 5. Shape the cookies
Take small pieces of dough with a large spoon and transfer them to the pan. You can also use your hands and to form balls.
- Wash your hands before touching the dough.
- Work the dough with the help of 2 tablespoons, if you prefer to avoid getting your hands dirty.
Step 6. Place the balls of dough on the pan separating them by a few centimeters
Since they will expand during cooking, placing them a few centimeters apart means you won't run the risk of them sticking together.
- Then separate the balls of dough by calculating a few centimeters of distance between them.
- Don't worry if they have slightly different shapes and sizes.
Part 3 of 5: Bake the Cookies
Step 1. Place the pan in the oven
Bake the cookies for 10 minutes.
- It is a good idea to rotate the pan after 5 minutes, placing the rear part forward to favor even cooking.
- Always use a timer to avoid burning the cookies. To be on the safe side, you can set it for 7-8 minutes, observe the cookies and then change the cooking times if necessary.
Step 2. Remove the cookies
Let them cool once they are golden on the edges. The pan will continue to cook them until it is hot: this is normal.
If you prefer, gently lift the cookies with a spatula and place them on a cooling rack
Step 3. Serve the cookies
Spread them out on a tray to serve at a party or wrap them individually in cling film to give to your friends.
Part 4 of 5: Add the Icing
Step 1. Add the icing
If you have some time, you can make a creamy glaze to garnish the cookies. Measure the following ingredients:
- 300 g of powdered sugar.
- 2-3 tablespoons of softened butter.
- ½ tablespoon of vanilla extract.
- 3-4 tablespoons of milk or water.
Step 2. Mix powdered sugar and butter
In a medium-sized bowl, mix the ingredients until you get a homogeneous mixture.
Step 3. Add the vanilla and 1 tablespoon of milk or water at a time until you have a soft and light glaze
Step 4. Glaze the cookies as soon as they have cooled
It is best to let the icing sit so that it can thicken and set.
If you want you can add sugared almonds
Part 5 of 5: Variants for Editing the Recipe
Step 1. Add another ingredient to enrich the flavor of the cookies
Classic vanilla cookies are also good on their own, but you might like to try something new.
When making the dough, add other ingredients, such as white chocolate chips, coconut flakes or nuts. You can also experiment with any nuts, berries or sweets of your choice
Step 2. Create a different shape
If you wish, you can roll out the dough with a rolling pin and use cookie cutters to get different shapes. This step can be particularly nice for children, who will be able to appreciate these cookies much more despite their simplicity.
