Maintaining an adequate level of hydration can be difficult, especially in hot weather or when exercising. If you are thirsty and are looking for a quick solution to quench it, you can fix it by trying different types of liquids, but there are also various foods that are very effective to quench your thirst.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Drinking Liquids
Step 1. Drink water
Water is the absolute best choice for the body. In addition to being refreshing, free and easily accessible, it also helps maintain a healthy weight. People who drink more water tend to ingest fewer calories over the course of the day.
If you can't drink plain water because it has no taste, flavor it with a sugar-free additive, or slices of orange or cucumber
Step 2. Consume tea or coffee
Beverages containing caffeine do not dehydrate the body - this is just a myth. In reality, although caffeine alone is a dehydrating substance, the water in tea or coffee can compensate for this characteristic. Add ice cubes to make a refreshing tea or coffee.
Step 3. Choose a sports drink
Sports drinks like Gatorade and Powerade contain electrolytes, which are important minerals that the body loses due to sweating. If you feel very thirsty after exercising or after being exposed to high temperatures, choose one of these high-sodium drinks.
Step 4. Drink a fizzy drink
The carbonation process makes drinks more refreshing and causes you to consume more liquids than you would otherwise ingest. Carbonated drinks no longer hydrate other drinks, but they are effective for quickly quenching your thirst.
Choose a light fizzy drink or mineral water to avoid taking in additional sugars
Step 5. Try coconut water
Coconut water is the clear liquid found in the center of the nut and is becoming increasingly popular in the beverage industry. In addition to being refreshing, it is packed with vitamins, nutrients and electrolytes. It is therefore another great option to recover lost hydration during a workout.
Step 6. Lower the temperature of the drinks
Cold drinks have been shown to quench thirst much more effectively than hot or room-temperature drinks. Put ice cubes in your drink or keep a pitcher of water in the fridge to always have a refreshing drink available.
- If you want to cool a drink quickly, but prefer to avoid diluting it with ice, try placing the closed bottle or can in a bowl filled with water, ice, and a generous helping of salt. It will cool down in about 5 minutes.
- To carry a cold drink, fill a thermos or insulated bottle with ice, but don't add water. This way the ice will melt more slowly.
Method 2 of 2: Eat Foods Rich in Water
Step 1. Eat fruits like watermelons and strawberries
Watermelon has a water content of 92%, and also contains several types of vitamins and minerals (such as salt) that are important for rehydration. Strawberries have more water than other berries, not to mention that they are rich in vitamin C.
Cantaloupe, pineapple, and raspberries are other examples of water-rich fruit
Step 2. Choose vegetables such as cucumbers or celery
Cucumbers are the solid food with the highest water content of all (96%), so they are perfect for quenching your thirst when you don't feel like drinking. Celery is very similar. Plus, being crunchy, it's great when you feel like munching on something.
Lettuce, spinach, and green peppers are other examples of water-rich vegetables
Step 3. Make a cold soup
While it doesn't seem like a particularly refreshing option, a cold soup made from cucumber, Greek yogurt, mint, and ice cubes can be made quickly in the blender and is great for making a hydrating (but also low-calorie) meal.
