Oreos are the most suitable cookies to prepare the most classic of milkshakes. Although the traditional recipe calls for the use of vanilla ice cream, you can replace it with frozen bananas. However you decide to prepare it, you will get a milkshake with a decidedly personalized taste.
Ingrediants
Recipe with Gelato
- 20 ml of chocolate syrup
- 8 Oreo cookies divided into two batches
- 250 ml of milk
- 500 ml of softened vanilla ice cream
Recipe with Frozen Bananas
- 2 bananas
- 125 ml of milk
- 125 ml of whipped cream in addition to that to decorate the glass
- 4 Oreo cookies
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Recipe with Ice Cream
Step 1. Prepare the glasses
Place them in the freezer for at least 15 minutes or until frozen. This prevents the milkshake from melting too quickly.
If you prefer, you can prepare a single “giant” milkshake or divide it into several small glasses
Step 2. Pour a little chocolate syrup on the inside of the glass
Do not forget that the bottom must be completely covered.
Step 3. Break the Oreos
Use a knife or blender to finely crumble 4 cookies. Leave them aside, you will sprinkle them on the drink at the end.
Step 4. Add the other Oreos to the blender
Step 5. Add the milk
Use only 250 ml, you can add more later to dilute the milkshake.
Step 6. Pour the vanilla ice cream into the blender glass
This will make the preparation thick and creamy.
Step 7. Blend the ingredients
Operate the appliance until the minced biscuits are completely incorporated into the milk and ice cream. The milkshake will be smooth and the cookies will be less and less visible as you blend them. Don't overdo it, though, if you'd rather have Oreo bits in your drink.
Step 8. Pour the milkshake into the glass you made
The mixture of milk and ice cream will cover the syrup already present in the glasses.
Step 9. Garnish the milkshake with the crumbled Oreos
Sprinkle them evenly over the surface and serve the drink.
Method 2 of 3: Frozen Banana Recipe
Step 1. Prepare the glasses
Place them in the freezer for at least 15 minutes or until frozen. This prevents the milkshake from melting too quickly.
If you prefer, you can prepare a single “giant” milkshake or divide it into several small glasses
Step 2. Prepare the bananas
Peel two of them and cut them into 2.5 cm pieces. Place them in a high-sided baking dish and place them in the freezer until hard. It will take about an hour.
You can also freeze whole bananas. It will take longer for them to harden, even several hours
Step 3. Transfer the bananas and milk to a blender and operate the appliance
Blend everything until the mixture becomes creamy and smooth. This will take several minutes, especially if the fruit is whole.
Step 4. Add the whipped cream and Oreos
Blend again until the biscuits reach the desired consistency.
The more time you blend, the smoother the milkshake and the fine Oreos will become. If you prefer whole pieces of cookies, only run the pulse blender a couple of times
Step 5. Pour the milkshake into the glasses and top them with more whipped cream
Serve it immediately.
Method 3 of 3: Variations
Step 1. Replace ice cream with frozen yogurt
If you are calorie conscious, or prefer a lighter drink, consider using frozen yogurt. It is available with many different flavors and you can also find the Greek version.
Step 2. Use a different flavor of ice cream
Although the Oreo-vanilla ice cream combo is the classic one, know that cookies go just as well with chocolate, strawberry, and even peanut butter ice cream! You will be surprised at the result!
Step 3. Try some different flavored Oreos
Although we have been accustomed to the classic ones, now these cookies are available in a wide range of flavors. From mint to peanut butter, you'll soon find your favorite.
Step 4. Change the type of milk
A milkshake can be made with any type of milk, from skim milk to whole milk. You can also use the different versions of "vegetable milk", such as almond milk, or opt for flavored ones. A chocolate milk gives an even more intense flavor to the Oreo milkshake.
