Steps
Method 1 of 3: Making Oreo Ice Cream from Scratch
Step 1. Prepare the ice cream maker
Read and follow the instructions in the manual. Preparation varies depending on the model. Some take longer than others. Having the ice cream maker ready allows you to make ice cream immediately once you have finished mixing the ingredients. Here are some methods of preparation:
- Some ice cream makers involve placing the salt and ice in the drum, while others require you to leave the bowl in the freezer for a few hours.
- Some ice cream makers are manual, others electric (in this case the device plug must be inserted into a power socket).
Step 2. In a large bowl, lightly mix 2 cups of heavy cream and 1 cup of milk
Step 3. Add 150g of sugar and a pinch of salt
Stir them with a spoon or whisk until the sugar and salt dissolve completely. There should be no specks left. To do this, it will be necessary to mix them for a few minutes. At the end add 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract and mix until a homogeneous color is obtained.
Step 4. Mix the ingredients, put the bowl in the fridge to keep them cool while you prepare the cookies and ice cream maker
Step 5. Crush the Oreos until about 1 cup full
To make Oreo ice cream, you will need some shredded cookies. You can crush them in various ways:
- Put the cookies in a blender or food processor and blend them for a few seconds. Blend them longer if you prefer smaller pieces.
- Break up the cookies with a knife.
- Place the cookies in a large airtight bag and crush them by hitting them with a mallet or passing a rolling pin.
- Shatter them with your hands.
Step 6. Pour the cream into the bowl of the ice cream maker
Do not fill it to the brim, as the ice cream expands as it freezes. About half full. If necessary, keep the leftover cream in the fridge.
Step 7. Make the ice cream
Follow the instructions in the ice cream maker manual, as they all work differently. Some must be operated manually, others are automatic. The process can take 20 minutes or even a few hours.
If you don't have an ice cream maker, pour the solution into a shallow freezer container and place it in the freezer. Stir it every 30 minutes, then put it back in the freezer. Repeat the process 4-5 times or until the ice cream is ready
Step 8. Just before the ice cream is ready, add the Oreos and keep stirring
Step 9. Once ready, place the ice cream in a freezer container
If you have leftover cream, you can pour them into the ice cream maker to make larger quantities of ice cream.
Method 2 of 3: Make Oreo Ice Cream (Bag Method)
Step 1. You will need 2 airtight bags of different sizes:
one small (with a capacity of 500 ml) and one large (with a capacity of 4 l). In the first you will pour the ice cream, in the second the ice and salt. Make sure the bags are resealable, as you will have to open and close them several times.
If you are concerned about making a mess, you can slip the smaller bag into another bag and do the same with the larger one. This will further protect them and prevent the liquid from seeping out of the plastic, without getting dirty
Step 2. Fill the small bag with ½ cup of heavy cream or a liquid made from equal parts milk and cream
Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and a few drops of vanilla extract.
- If you want the ice cream to be less sweet, use reduce the amount of sugar and vanilla.
- To hold the bag in place, place it in a small bowl before pouring the ingredients.
Step 3. When all the ingredients have been poured, close the bag
To make sure there is as little air as possible, close it only partially, squeeze it to let excess air out of the open space and finish closing it.
If you are concerned about making a mess, put the bag in a similar-sized sachet after closing it. Repeat the process with the other bag
Step 4. Fill the large bag with 3 cups of ice and 95g of salt
Shake it to mix the ingredients. About half full. If you have filled it completely, remove some ice - there must be enough space for the smaller bag to fit in.
Any type of salt will do, but the larger crystals guarantee a better result
Step 5. Put the small bag in the large one and close it
In the large bag, move some cubes to make room for the small bag and slide it between them - it must be surrounded by ice. Once the small bag is firmly secured, close the large one.
- If you are concerned that the liquid will seep and dirty, you can put the large bag in another bag.
- If it's too cold to touch, wrap it in a towel or wear gloves.
Step 6. Close the bags tightly, shake them and knead them for about 10-15 minutes
Step 7. Once the mixture is firm to the touch, you can remove the small bag and discard the large one
The preparation will be almost complete.
Step 8. Shatter the Oreos, if you haven't done so before
The size of the pieces depends on your preferences. You can also mix large and small pieces. They should generally not exceed the size of your thumb. You can break them up in several ways:
- Blend them with a blender or food processor until you get the desired result.
- Chop them up with a knife.
- Place them in a large airtight bag and crush them with a mallet or rolling pin.
- Shatter them with your fingers. This way you will get mostly big pieces.
Step 9. Using a spoon or spatula, mix the cookies with the ice cream
Use the amount you want.
Method 3 of 3: Preparation Without Ice Cream Maker
Step 1. Pour 2 cups of heavy cream or cold whipped cream into a large bowl and beat with an electric hand mixer for about 3 minutes, or until stiff
If you don't have a mixer, you can use a planetary mixer with a whisk
Step 2. Add 1 can of cold sweetened condensed milk and, if desired, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Mix until you get a uniform color.
Step 3. Shatter the Oreos
You will need about 70g. The bits can be any size you want, but in general they shouldn't be larger than an inch. You can also combine large and small pieces. Try to crush 5-10 cookies at a time, rather than all at once. This can be done in several ways:
- Blend them in a blender or food processor for a few seconds. With this method the cookies will be finely chopped.
- Break them up with a knife to get pieces of various sizes.
- Put them in a large airtight bag and crush them with a mallet or passing a rolling pin.
- Shatter them with your hands. With this method you will get mostly large pieces.
Step 4. With the help of a spatula, mix the crushed biscuits with the ice cream until a homogeneous consistency is obtained
Step 5. Pour the ice cream into a freezer-safe container and leave it in the freezer for at least 6 hours
