Cold cappuccino is a delicious drink, perfect for summer, which in addition to refreshing you is able to give you the charge thanks to the presence of coffee. Nowadays you can order it in many bars, although according to some coffee aficionados, ice inevitably ruins the consistency of the foam. In any case, you can try your hand at preparing cold cappuccino even at home. This is a simple recipe, which starts with the preparation of an espresso and requires you to froth the milk and finally blend both with ice.

Ingrediants

  • 60 ml of water
  • 20 g of coffee
  • 120 ml of milk
  • 1-2 teaspoons (5-10 g) of sugar
  • 5-10 ice cubes

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Making the Cappuccino

Step 1. Measure and grind the coffee beans

The recipe for cold cappuccino starts with the preparation of an espresso coffee. Since the ice will inevitably dilute the drink, it is best to start with a double coffee, which requires about 20g of ground coffee. Transfer the grains to the coffee grinder and grind them into a fine powder.

The grain of the ground coffee should be very similar to that of the table salt

Step 2. Prepare the espresso

Transfer the ground coffee into the filter holder of the machine, then compact it with the special metal tamper. Hook the filter holder back onto the machine assembly and place the cup. Turn on the machine and let it brew the coffee for about 30 seconds, then turn it off.

Use a large cup (at least 200ml) to make sure there is room for the milk too

Step 3. If you want, you can prepare the espresso in another way

You can get good concentrated coffee even if you don't have a typical espresso machine - even if that's the best way to get a good cappuccino. If you want to make an espresso at home, but you don't have a coffee machine available, you can:

  • Use the mocha and the stove. Disassemble the coffee maker and fill the boiler located in the lower part with water, then replace the metal filter. Add the ground coffee to the inside of the filter, then screw the top of the pot onto the boiler. Heat the mocha using a medium flame and wait for the coffee to fill the upper bin.
  • Make instant coffee. As a last resort, you can use instant coffee in twice the usual amount to make it stronger and more concentrated. For example, if you normally use two tablespoons to make a cup of coffee, this time double the doses and add four.

Step 4. Whip the milk

Pour the cold milk into the metal jug. Immerse the lance so that the tip is just below the surface of the milk and tilt the jug at 45 °. Open the steam valve and heat the milk until it doubles its volume and reaches a temperature of 65 ° C (or until the jug is very hot to the touch).

  • Heat the milk in a saucepan on the stove if you don't have an espresso machine. Use a medium heat and wait for it to start simmering, without letting the temperature rise further. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes or until it is hot and the surface is not full of bubbles.
  • Cappuccino is prepared using the same amount of coffee, frothed milk and foam, so the milk must reach twice the volume of that of the espresso.

Step 5. Pour the milk into the coffee

Swirl the milk inside the jug to make even more foam. Hold the jug directly over the espresso cup and pour the milk in a single continuous stream. At the end, move the jug so that the foam also falls into the cup.

Step 6. Add the sugar

You can sweeten the cappuccino if you want it to have a good sweet taste. If so, now is the best time to do it, as the milk and coffee are very hot. By adding it later it is likely that some grains will not be able to dissolve.

After adding the sugar, stir the cappuccino gently to distribute it evenly in the drink and help it melt

Step 7. Cool the cappuccino

Leave it at room temperature for about 30 minutes, then transfer it to the refrigerator. Let it cool for another 30-60 minutes. If you were to add ice while it is still hot, it would immediately melt ruining the typical foamy consistency of the drink.

It is important to wait until the cappuccino has cooled down before putting it in the refrigerator, otherwise the cup could break due to the sudden change in temperature

Part 2 of 3: Blend Cappuccino with Ice

Step 1. Pour the cappuccino and ice cubes into the blender glass

Take the cold cappuccino out of the fridge and pour it into the blender. Add 5-10 ice cubes (depending on your preference). Remember that by using less ice you will be able to enjoy the taste of coffee better.

If you prefer to use the hand blender, pour the cappuccino and ice into the special transparent glass to avoid splashing the surrounding surfaces as you blend

Step 2. Add a syrup if you want to flavor the cappuccino

You can customize the taste of your refreshing drink by using one or two teaspoons (5-10ml) of a sweet syrup of your choice. You can choose from many delicious flavors, for example:

  • Hazelnut.
  • Vanilla.
  • Chocolate.
  • Caramel.
  • Cinnamon.

Step 3. Blend until the drink has a smooth consistency

Snap the lid onto the blender cup and turn it on. If it is present, select the function used to crush the ice. Continue blending the ingredients for about a minute. You will know that your cold cappuccino is ready when the ice has been very finely chopped and the consistency is homogeneous, smooth and creamy.

When ready, pour it into a tall glass, making sure there is some room for the whipped cream and other decorations as well, if you wish to add them.

Step 1. Garnish the cappuccino with whipped cream

It's a simple and perfect way to make your cold drink even more inviting and delicious. After pouring the cappuccino into the glass, add a couple of tablespoons of whipped cream to further please your eyes and palate.

You can use the classic whipped cream or a vegetable version made with coconut milk

Step 2. Add a decoration with sprinkles of sugar or chocolate or cocoa

Whether you have used whipped cream or not, you can decorate the surface of the drink with cocoa powder or with sprinkles of colored chocolate or sugar. If you prefer to use cocoa or colored sprinkles, sprinkle a pinch on the cream or directly on the milk. If you want, you can also create chocolate chips directly from a tablet using a knife or vegetable peeler.

If you have decided to use whipped cream, add the chocolate or sugar decorations as a last step, sprinkling them on top of the cream

Step 3. You can also use spices if you want

They are good and fragrant and make an excellent decoration. Sprinkle a pinch of your favorite spice on the milk or whipped cream before enjoying or serving the cold cappuccino. There are many that go well with the taste of milk and coffee, for example:

  • Cinnamon.
  • Nutmeg.
  • Ginger.
  • Pimento.
  • Cloves.
