In older versions of Dragon City, Pure Dragons were the rarest of the rare ones, obtainable only by mating two Legendary Dragons and hoping for the best outcome. After the 2013 Law and War update, this system was disrupted. Pure Dragons are now available for purchase in the shop after reaching a certain level, and can be spawned with each other for a small chance to get one of six Legendary Dragons. Pure Dragons can also be used to make hybrid dragons like Pure Electric, Pure Dark, and so on.

Steps

Part 1 of 2: Get Your First Pure Dragon

Step 1. Don't try to get a Pure Dragon by breeding

Since the July 2013 Law and War update, Not You can get 100% Pure Dragon with breeding. They are much more common today, but you will need to purchase them from the store as described below.

If you're looking for a challenge, try getting a "Legendary" Dragon instead. Since the update, these are the rarest dragons in the game. Breeding two Pure Dragons gives a small chance of getting a Legendary one, so consider this method an intermediate step for rarer dragons

Step 2. Reach level 34

This is the level required to purchase Pure Dragons from the shop.

If you have gold to spend, keep building farms and selling them for Experience Points. If you can afford it, create the Huge Food Farm, it offers the best income. Be careful not to spend too much, though, as you'll also need a lot of gold to buy your Pure Dragon

Step 3. Get 15 million gold

This is the cost of a Pure Dragon. If that seems like an unattainable amount, try building and improving as many farms as possible. In the long run you will earn a lot.

Step 4. Purchase the Pure Dragon

Visit the Dragon Shop and purchase your first Pure Dragon. Many players call this dragon the "Pure Unicorn" for its original horned appearance, but its name will be Pure Dragon.

Part 2 of 2: Matching Pure Dragons to Get New Types of Dragons

Step 1. Pair the Pure Dragon with other single element dragons to get hybrids

In almost all cases, breeding a Pure Dragon with another "Generation 1" dragon has only one possible outcome: a hybrid of the two types. For example, pairing a Pure Dragon and a Dark Dragon will always give you a Pure Dark Dragon.

Two of these hybrids have special names. Pairing a Pure with a War Dragon produces a "Kratus Dragon", and matching a Pure with an Archangel (of Light) Dragon produces a "Zen Dragon"

Step 2. Get special dragons

There are three special dragons in the game that can be obtained by breeding Pure Dragons:

  • Pair a level 15 or higher Pure Dragon with a level 15 or higher Earth Dragon to get an Ivory Dragon.
  • Have any Pure element dragon mate with any Light element dragon in a level 7 or higher Sanctuary for a chance to get a Core Dragon. Some unusual combinations with the Sea element will also work.
  • Have any Pure element dragon mate with a Flame element dragon in a level 8 Shrine for a chance to get a Basilisk Dragon.

Step 3. Pair two Pure Dragons for a chance to get a Legendary one

Whenever you spawn two Pure element dragons, there is a 6% chance that they will produce one of the Legendary Dragons. If you're looking to maximize your chances of getting a Legendary Dragon, pairing two regular Pure Dragons together is the best choice, as each attempt will only take 12 hours to wait. Other combinations take a longer time on average, and still offer a probability of 6%.

  • The downside to this strategy is that you will get another Pure Dragon 94% of the time. If you prefer to get new and exciting dragons, keep pairing combinations of dragons that both include the Pure element, for example a Kratus Dragon with a Pure Dragon of Darkness. On average, you'll have to wait longer each time, but even when you don't get a Legendary Dragon, you may get a new awesome dragon.
  • If you only have one Pure Dragon, keep pairing a Pure Flame and Pure Earth, until you have a Legendary or a second Pure Dragon.

Advice

  • Some hard-to-get dragons can act as "wild cards," so you have a small chance of getting a Pure Dragon by pairing a Mirror Dragon with a Mirror Dragon, or a Legendary Dragon with a Crystal Dragon. However, these dragons are also difficult to obtain, so saving up to buy one is the best method.
  • In total there are six Legendary Dragons, plus many other dragons that can only be obtained by breeding Legendary Dragons.
