Shears in Minecraft are used to shear sheep, harvest plants, cut cobwebs and destroy wooden blocks. They are very simple to build.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Find the Materials
Step 1. Look for some iron
You will need two iron blocks.
Step 2. Melt the iron
You can do this by placing the two blocks in the furnace. Put some iron in the upper space, some fuel (coal) in the lower one.
Step 3. Find the two iron ingots you cast
Method 2 of 3: Building the Shears
Step 1. Place the two iron ingots on the crafting table
Step 2. Arrange them as follows:
- Place an iron ingot in the center of the left column.
- Place the other ingot in the center of the top row.
Step 3. Click-Shift or drag-and-drop the shears into your inventory
Method 3 of 3: Using the Shears
Shears can be used to shear sheep, shred wool faster, or harvest tall grass, leaves, dead bushes, vines and ferns.
Step 1. Shear a sheep
With shears in hand, stand next to a sheep and right click. You will shear it. To collect the wool, just walk on it.
- You will get 1-3 blocks of wool from each sheep you shear.
- Be careful in Minecraft Pocket Edition. If you are not careful you could kill the sheep. To clip one properly, tap and hold the screen, the same way you would break a block. Otherwise shearing the sheep could injure it and kill it after 8 hits.
Step 2. Collect the plants
With the shears in hand, right click on a plant.
Note that some plants can be harvested without shears, but some require them, such as ferns, tall grass, dead plants, leaves, and bushes
Step 3. Destroy the cobwebs
Use shears to remove cobwebs almost instantly. Left click to start the action. You will get a piece of string for your endeavors.
Step 4. Use the shears on a mushroom
By right clicking the effect will be to produce red mushrooms and restore the mushrooms that grow on the cows.
Step 5. Shred the wool faster
If you have misplaced a block of wool, you may need to destroy it. Without the shears, doing this can take time. To destroy it, equip the shears and left click.
The shears will not be damaged by destroying wool blocks
Advice
- If you want colored wool, you can dye a sheep before shearing it.
- Leaves harvested with shears become leaf blocks that can be placed and will not rot. The leaves, however, will not produce saplings.
