Crobat is the final evolution of Zubat and Golbat in Pokémon. In the Emerald version of the game, you cannot find it in the wild. You have to capture a Zubat or Golbat and then evolve them. Golbat evolves into Crobat when his Affection score exceeds 220 points.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Evolving Golbat
Step 1. Find a Golbat
This Pokémon evolves into Crobat. You can either capture it directly, or find a Zubat and have it up to level 22, when it evolves into Golbat. You can level up Zubat with battles or with Rare Candies.
- You can capture Zubat in the following areas: Mutable Cave, Cave of Times, Stony Cave, Victoria Street, Meteora Falls, Abyssal Cave and Wave Cave.
- You can capture Golbat in these areas: Cave of Times, Wave Cave, Sky Tower, Meteora Falls, Abyssal Cave, and Via Vittoria.
Step 2. Raise Golbat's Affection level
You must have Golbat attain a high level of affection for it to evolve into Crobat. Read the following section to find out how.
Step 3. Check Golbat's level of affection
You can do this by visiting the lady in the house in the lower right corner of Mentania. When you talk to that lady with Golbat as the first Pokémon on the team, she will reveal her level of affection to you. Here are the phrases you need to watch out for (Golbat evolves when it reaches 220 points of affection):
- 150-199: "He's very fond of you. He wants a little pampering."
- 200-254: "He seems very happy. Evidently he is very fond of you."
- 255: "He loves you … he couldn't be more fond of you than that. It's nice to see him!"
Step 4. Level up Golbat once he has 220 affection points
Once the desired score is achieved, the Pokémon must level up. You can give him a Rare Candy and if affection is enough, he will evolve into Crobat.
- The lady who evaluates affection will not tell you when the Pokémon has reached exactly 220 points. You will need to find out based on what he said and the actions you have taken since then.
- Wild-caught Zubats and Golbats start with a love score of 70.
Part 2 of 2: Raising Golbat's Affection
Step 1. Immediately take the actions with the greatest impact
The increase in affection decreases as you get closer to 220 points. The three bands are 0-99, 100-199 and 200-255. For example, leveling up a Pokémon is worth 5 points of affection between 0 and 99, 3 points between 100 and 199, 2 points when affection has exceeded 200 points.
In this section, affection gain is expressed as a series of numbers, based on the band, for example "5, 3, 2" when a Pokémon levels up
Step 2. Capture Golbat or Zubat with a Chic ball
This increases all affection activities by one point. It does not change the value of negative shares.
Step 3. Give Golbat a Calmanella
This item also gives a point bonus to all activities that allow you to gain affection. You can get it in Port Selcepoli from the Pokémon Fan Club. If you have caught Golbat with a Chic ball and give him a Calmanella, you will get 2 extra points for each action.
Step 4. Level up Golbat
Each time the Pokémon levels up, it will get a moderate affection boost (5, 3, 2).
Step 5. Use Golbat in important battles
Putting Golbat on the field in battles with the Gym Leaders, the Elite Four, or the League Champion increases his affection score (3, 2, 1).
Step 6. Keep Golbat on the team as you explore the world
Every 256 steps your Pokémon will earn 1 affection point. Try never to deposit Golbat, in order to take advantage of this small but constant source of income.
Step 7. Give Golbat the vitamins
These items permanently boost a Pokémon's stats, as well as increase its affection score (5, 3, 2).

- PP Up / Max
- Rare candy
Step 8. Give Golbat berries that increase affection
The following items greatly increase a Pokémon's Affection Score (10, 10, 10), but reduce its EVs:
- Baccagrana
- Baccaloquat
- Baccamodoro
- Baccauva
- Baccamelon
- Codfish
Step 9. Don't let Golbat go ko
When a Pokémon is defeated in battle, it loses 1 Affection Point. Replace him when he is close to fainting. If it reaches zero HP, take care of it at a Pokémon Center.
Step 10. Heal Pokémon at the Pokémon Center
Using healing items on your Golbat, such as Dust Heal and Dust Energy (-5, -5, -10), Energy Root (-10, -10, -15), and Vitalerba (-15, -15, -20) will cause him to lose a lot of points affection. In minutes you could ruin the job done in hours. Heal your Pokémon only in the Center, which does not affect the affection score.
Step 11. Don't trade the Golbat
During the swap Pokémon affection is reset to 70. The only time this strategy is useful is if you have lowered your Golbat's affection level below 70 points.
Advice
- It is not possible to catch Crobat, you can only get it with an evolution.
- Shiny Golbats are green.
