This article explains how to remove Bing from Google Chrome's search engine list using the "Settings" menu. In case it is not possible to do this via the Chrome settings, you can solve the problem by restoring the default configuration of the browser.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Change Chrome Settings
Step 1. Launch Google Chrome
Step 2. Press the ⋮ button
It is located in the upper right corner of the browser window.
Step 3. Choose the Settings option
Step 4. Locate the Show Home Button option
It is located within the "Appearance" section of the "Settings" menu.
If the cursor on the right of the indicated item is active and Bing is visible as a website to use as Chrome's home page, delete it and press the Enter key
Step 5. Scroll the "Settings" menu down to press the button
placed next to the item Search engine used in the address bar.
It is located within the "Search Engine" section.
Step 6. Select any search engine on the list other than Bing
Step 7. Select the Set Search Engines option
It is located in the "Search Engine" section of the menu.
Step 8. Press the ⋮ button located to the right of the "Bing" entry
Step 9. Choose the Remove option from the list
At this point, Bing can no longer be used as a search engine within Chrome.
Step 10. Locate the "On startup" section of the "Settings" menu
Step 11. Choose the Open a specific page or set of pages option
If the web address of the Bing home page is visible in the list that appears, follow these instructions:
- Press the ⋮ button to the right of the Bing URL;
- Choose the option Remove from the context menu that appeared. This will remove Bing from Chrome.
Step 12. Close the "Settings" tab
It is one of the tabs visible at the top of the Chrome window, above the address bar. Any changes made to your browser settings will be saved and applied.
Method 2 of 2: Reset Chrome
Step 1. Launch Google Chrome
Step 2. Press the ⋮ button
It is located in the upper right corner of the browser window.
Step 3. Choose the Settings option
Step 4. Scroll to the bottom of the appeared list to be able to select the Advanced link
It is located at the end of the "Settings" menu.
Step 5. Locate and select the Reset item
It is positioned at the end of the appeared list.
Step 6. Press the Reset button
Carefully read the instructions in the dialog box that appeared to understand what resetting the default configuration of Google Chrome entails, then start the process by pressing the indicated button.
