This article explains how to let people follow your public posts on Facebook without having to add you as a friend.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Using an Android Device
Step 1. Open Facebook on your Android device
The icon for this app is blue, with a white "f". You can usually find it in the app drawer.
Step 2. Press ≡ in the top right corner of Facebook
Step 3. Scroll down and press Account Settings
You will see this button at the bottom of the menu.
Step 4. Press Public Posts
Scroll down to find this entry.
Step 5. Press All under "Who can follow me"
Now all Facebook users can follow your public posts without you having to add them as friends.
- If you want your followers to be able to comment on your posts, press All also under "Comments on public posts".
- To allow followers to comment on other details of your account, including updates, profile pictures, and cover photos, scroll down and press All under "Public Profile Information".
Method 2 of 3: Using an iPhone or iPad
Step 1. Open Facebook on your iPhone or iPad
The icon of this app is blue with a white "f" inside. You can usually find it on the main screen.
Step 2. Press ≡ in the lower right corner of Facebook
Step 3. Scroll down and hit Settings
It is one of the last items on the menu.
Step 4. Press Account Settings
Step 5. Press Public Posts
Step 6. Press All under "Who can follow me?
Now all Facebook users can follow your public posts without you having to add them as a friend.
- If you want your followers to be able to comment on your posts, press All also under "Comments on public posts".
- To allow followers to comment on other details of your account, including updates, profile pictures, and cover photos, scroll down and press All under "Public Profile Information".
Method 3 of 3: Using a Computer
Step 1. Go to the Facebook web page with a browser
If you are not already logged in to your account, enter your credentials in the empty fields in the upper right of the screen, then click Log in.
Step 2. Click the down arrow
You will see it in the blue bar at the top of Facebook, to the left of the "?" Icon. Press it and a menu will appear.
Step 3. Click Settings
You will see this item among the last ones in the menu.
Step 4. Click Public Posts in the left column
Step 5. Choose who can follow you
You will see a button in the "Who can follow me" section of the right pane. The default is Friends. Click the button and select All to allow all Facebook users to follow your public posts.
- If you want your followers to be able to comment on your posts, select All also under "Comments on public posts".
- To allow followers to comment on other details of your account, including updates, profile pictures, and cover photos, scroll down and press All under "Public Profile Information".
