This article explains how to simultaneously view two applications on the screen of an Android device. The "Split Screen" feature is only available for Android 7.0 (Nougat) and above and may not be supported by all applications.
Steps
Step 1. Launch the first app
Please note that some applications do not support the "Split Screen" feature. To test this new Android feature with two applications that certainly support it, you can use the native SMS and email management apps of your device's operating system.
Step 2. Press the Home button
It is located in the lower central part of the screen.
Step 3. Launch the second application
At this point you should have at least two apps running.
Step 4. Press the "Recent Applications" button
It is usually located at the bottom right of the screen. A list of all running apps will be displayed.
Depending on your smartphone or tablet model, the "Recent Apps" button may be located in the lower left corner of the screen
Step 5. Keep your finger pressed on the title bar at the top of the first app window
An indication similar to the following should appear at the top of the screen: "Drag here to use Split Screen".
Step 6. Drag the app window to the top of the screen, where the message appears
The selected app will be placed in the upper half of the screen, while the other will be displayed in the lower part.
Step 7. Tap the title bar of the second app
Both selected applications will be displayed on the screen at the same time.
Step 8. Drag the black divider up or down to resize the app windows
This is the black line that separates the two application windows displayed on the screen.
- Drag it up to increase the size of the app window displayed at the bottom of the screen, or drag it down to increase the size of the window displayed at the top of the screen.
- By moving the window divider all the way to the top or bottom of the screen, the "Split Screen" mode will be disabled automatically.
Step 9. Press the "Recent Applications" button to select another app
Since "Split Screen" mode is active, the indicated key will have a different function than the default. In this case, instead of appearing the list of all apps running in the background, you will be given the option to choose a third application that will replace the one currently displayed in the lower half of the screen. To select an app, tap the corresponding title bar.
Step 10. To turn off "Split Screen" mode, drag the screen divider all the way to the top or bottom
If you drag it towards the top, the app displayed in the lower half will appear in full screen. Conversely, by dragging the divider down, the app displayed in the upper half will appear in full screen.
