This article explains how to transfer applications and personal data from an iPhone to another iOS device (for example if you decide to buy a new model of Apple smartphone). We will also explain how to share files between iOS devices using the AirDrop feature.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Create an iCloud Backup
Step 1. Launch the Settings app
iPhone where the data to be transferred is stored.
Normally the app icon is visible directly on the device Home.
Step 2. Select your Apple ID
It is displayed at the top of the screen.
Step 3. Choose the iCloud item
Step 4. Activate the slider of all the types of data that you want to include in the backup and then that you want to transfer to the new iPhone
Make sure that the cursor of the items in question is green
Step 5. Tap iCloud Backup
Step 6. Activate the "iCloud Backup" slider by moving it to the right
A confirmation message will be displayed.
Step 7. Press the OK button
Step 8. Now select the Back up now option
This way all the data you have chosen to include in the backup will be stored in your iCloud account. At the end of the backup phase, read this section of the article to find out how to restore the backup on the new iPhone.
Method 2 of 3: Restore an iCloud Backup
Step 1. Turn on the new iPhone
You will be greeted by a welcome screen which will display the word "Hello".
- Only perform the steps in this section of the article after backing up your data to iCloud using your current iOS device.
-
If you've already done the initial setup on your new iPhone, you'll need to reset it so you can do it again. Follow these instructions:
-
Launch the app Settings
;
- Select the tab General;
- Tap the item Reset;
- Choose the option Erase content and settings. The iPhone will automatically restart and return to the original state it was in when you first turned it on after purchase.
Step 2. Follow the on-screen instructions until you reach the screen asking you to set up your Wi-Fi connection
Step 3. Connect to the Wi-Fi network
In order to restore an iCloud backup, the iOS device must be connected to the internet.
Step 4. Follow the instructions that will appear on the device screen until you reach the "Apps and data" screen of the setup wizard
Step 5. Select the Restore from iCloud Backup option
A login screen will appear.
Step 6. Log in to iCloud
Use the same Apple ID you used to log in to your old iPhone.
Step 7. When prompted, select the latest available backup
The data recovery process will start automatically.
At the end of this step, all the data included in the iCloud backup will be available on your new iOS device
Method 3 of 3: Share Files Using AirDrop
Step 1. Activate the "AirDrop" feature on both iPhones
If you only need to transfer some files from one iPhone to another, it will be much easier to use the "AirDrop" feature. Follow these instructions to activate it on both devices:
- Swipe up on the screen, starting at the bottom of the Home screen. The "Control Center" will be displayed;
- Press and hold a network connection icon (Wi-Fi, cellular data, or Bluetooth). A special menu will be displayed;
- Select the option AirDrop;
- Choose the operating mode from Reception not active, Contacts only or All;
- If the Apple ID synced with the other iPhone is not stored in your contacts, you will not be able to establish a connection via AirDrop if you choose the mode Contacts only. In this case, you can solve the problem by adding the person under test to your contacts or by switching to the operating mode All.
Step 2. Launch the app that contains the data you want to share
For example, if you want to transfer photos, you will need to launch the app Photo.
Step 3. Select the item you want to share
It will be displayed within the application.
In most apps you will be able to perform multiple data selection, for example using the Photos app. In this case, keep your finger pressed on an image, after which you can include as many photos as you want in the selection
Step 4. Tap the "Share" icon
It is normally visible at the bottom of the screen. A list of the sharing options you have available will be displayed.
The section dedicated to AirDrop is visible at the top of the sharing menu. A list of all detected devices that have an active AirDrop connection will be displayed (only if you have chosen the "All" operating mode)
Step 5. Tap the name of the iPhone you want to send the selected data to
If both iOS devices involved have the AirDrop functionality set correctly, the file you chose will be sent from your iPhone to that of the person indicated.
