The goal of TOR is to give anonymity to users who surf online. It can also be used to bypass internet restrictions. It is available for Windows, Mac and Linux and can only be installed on a jailbroken iPhone. In this article we will show you how to use TOR in an iPhone without jailbreak.
Steps
Step 1. Download and install TOR on a computer (Windows, Mac or Linux)
Step 2. The computer will need to act as a server
Download and install Apache,
Step 3. Create a Proxy Auto-Config file (PAC file)
Open a new text file and paste the text below replacing xx.xx with the IP address of the computer running TOR.
- function FindProxyForURL (url, host)
- {
- return "SOCKS 192.168.xx.xx: 9050";
- }
Step 4. Save the file as proxy.pac in the Apache htdocs folder
If you are using TOR with a LAN, check if the file is accessible. Open the web browser on a different device connected to the same network and write the address https://192.168.xx.xx/proxy.pac and if you see the text above, everything works fine.
Step 5. Find the torrc file in your computer's TOR directory
Open notepad and change the last line. Instead of 127.0.0.1, write 192.168.xx.xx: 9050 making sure to replace xx.xx with the address of the computer running TOR.
Step 6. Take the iPhone, go to Settings> Wi-Fi and click the blue arrow next to the network connection that the computer running TOR is connected to
In HTTP Proxy, select Auto and enter the same URL you used to check if the proxy.pac file was accessible.
Step 7. Congratulations
You can now use TOR on your iPhone.
Warnings
