This wikiHow teaches you how to close applications that are currently active or running in the background on a Samsung Galaxy mobile device.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Close Recently Used Applications (Samsung Galaxy S5 or later)
Step 1. Press the "Recent Applications" button
It is located to the left of the Home button. This will display the list of all recently used and still active apps.
Step 2. Scroll through the list of applications until you find the one you want to close
Step 3. Drag the desired app off the screen
You can choose to direct it towards any of the edges of the screen, the important thing is to get it out of view. This will close the application.
- Alternatively, you can tap the icon in the shape of X located in the upper right corner of the program window you want to close.
- If you prefer to close all currently open apps at the same time, press the button Close them all located at the bottom of the screen.
Method 2 of 3: Close Recently Used Applications (Samsung Galaxy S4)
Step 1. Go to the Home screen of the Samsung Galaxy S4
Step 2. Press and hold the Home button on your device
You will see a list of all recently used and still active applications.
Step 3. Scroll through the list of applications until you find the one you want to close
Step 4. Drag the desired app off the screen
You can choose to direct it towards any of the edges of the screen, the important thing is to get it out of view. This will close the application.
If you prefer to close all currently open apps at the same time, press the button Remove everything located at the bottom of the screen.
Method 3 of 3: Stop the Live Applications in the Background
Step 1. Go to the Samsung Galaxy Home screen
Step 2. Open the device's "Task Manager" program (called Smart Manager if you are using a Samsung Galaxy S7)
- Galaxy S4: Press and hold the Home button on your device. When the list of recently used applications appears, press the button Activity management located in the lower left corner of the screen.
- Galaxy S5 and S6: Press the "Recent Applications" button. It is located to the left of the Home button. At this point, press the button Activity management located in the lower corner of the screen.
- Galaxy S7: Swipe down on the screen starting from the top. Tap the icon ⚙️ located at the top of the control panel to access the application Settings, choose the option Smart Manager and finally tap the tab RAM.
Step 3. Press the Close button
It is placed next to each of the running applications. Press the button indicated and related to each of the apps you want to close.
If you need to stop all apps running in the background at the same time, press the button Close everything.
Step 4. Press the OK button when prompted
This will confirm that you want to close the selected application or applications.
