School is over and you finally have the break you deserve. If only you knew how to use all your free time! Resist the temptation to do nothing all summer. You don't want to have any regrets when you think about how you could have used the holidays. Plan your summer vacation ahead of time to make it memorable, productive and fun.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Planning the Holidays
Step 1. Write a to-do list
Take advantage of the summer break for all those activities you didn't have time for during school. Do your laundry and tidy up your room. Don't waste precious time everyday looking for clean clothes to put on or looking for your phone or keys amidst the clutter. They won't be the funniest things you do this summer, but by starting with those, you start off on the right foot.
Step 2. Write another list, with the things you've always wanted to do
Think big. List all the things you'd like to try, then dedicate your vacation to making those dreams a reality. Having the list at your fingertips will give you tons of ideas. You won't risk wasting your days thinking about what to do. Just choose an activity to check out.
Step 3. Make time for friends and family
Consider the people most important to you. Don't plan so many engagements that you never have time to see them. Spend days just for family or friends and make the most of them.
Step 4. Create a calendar
Between work, family and friends, keeping track of your summer activities can be a real challenge. Make a calendar so you can plan busy days without going overboard.
Step 5. Don't spend too much
Summer is the right time to earn some extra cash. The biggest mistake that students make is spending everything they have in the hot months and going to school without a euro. Make sure you only do the activities you can afford so that you return to school in good financial condition. Don't start the new school year worrying about money.
Method 2 of 4: Relax
Step 1. Read a book
Grab a book, go outside and read it in the shade. Reading is not only a fun escape from reality, it also helps keep your brain in good shape, ready for back to school.
- If you need to read a book for school, you can dedicate 20 minutes every day to this activity. That way you won't have to read it all in the last few days of your vacation.
- If you are looking for a book but don't want to spend any money, go to the local library. You will be able to read many volumes without paying anything.
Step 2. Sleep
School starts early in the morning for almost all students. The nights spent studying, combined with the very early alarm clock can exhaust you. Use your free time to catch up on lost sleep so you can enjoy your holidays. You will have more fun when you are well rested and full of energy.
Step 3. Take a trip and write down your experiences
Traveling is a very common summer activity. Expanding your horizons and seeing the world is beautiful. Make the most of your trip by starting a blog and writing about your experiences. A nice travel blog gives readers the impression that they are there with you, so share it with your friends, so they can join in on your adventures, even if they aren't there. In the future you will be able to re-read the blog to remember the holiday and at the same time improve your writing skills.
If writing isn't your thing, you can start a photo blog. You can document your journey through images
Step 4. Prepare a meal for friends and family
Having a barbecue or dinner together are great opportunities for conversation with family and friends. If you don't know how to cook, make some sandwiches and organize a picnic. Show people you care about that you really appreciate being able to spend your free time with them.
If you want to improve your cooking skills, you can sign up for a course. Often they don't cost much and in some cases are even offered free of charge by local authorities
Step 5. Go fishing
It is a fun, relaxing and ideal for spending time with friends or family. The best times are sunrise and sunset, so it's the perfect pastime when you're bored, but it's too early or late to do anything else.
Step 6. Watch a TV series marathon
There is probably at least one program you like, but during the school year you struggle to keep up with all the episodes. Now you have a chance to catch up. If you missed a season during the spring or late fall, you can easily watch it on television or stream during the summer. You can invite a friend or two to your house and watch it with them all night long.
Method 3 of 4: Have fun
Step 1. Play a sport
These are ideal activities for keeping fit and socializing at the same time. Host a basketball game, sign up for a marathon or swim a few laps at the local pool. Most sports require very little expense to get started and can keep you entertained for hours. In addition, it is more difficult to find time to maintain physical fitness during the school year. Take advantage of the free time at your disposal to do some exercise.
Step 2. Take up a new hobby
Make the most of your time by improving yourself. Learn to play an instrument, try gardening or knitting. The important thing is to choose an activity that you have always wanted to do, that does not force you to exceed your budget. You will be proud of your achievements at the end of the summer.
Step 3. Visit a museum
These places can be fun, inspire you and educate you. There are art museums, dedicated to science, history and more. Regardless of what your interests are, you can find a museum that deals with those topics. This is a great way to have fun and learn at the same time.
Step 4. Adopt a pet
This is not only a nice gesture, but you will also find a companion who will always be by your side throughout the holidays. Animals require a lot of care and attention, so make sure you are able to get one. You can find lots of animals looking for a home in shelters or shops.
If your parents don't allow you to take an animal, you can volunteer at the local shelter. These organizations are almost always in dire need of volunteers. You will have the opportunity to spend time with animals and you will have an experience that you can include in your resume
Method 4 of 4: Work
Step 1. Volunteer for a charity
Whether you just pick up dirt at the local park or travel to the other side of the world to build houses, volunteering can be a beautiful experience. You can learn a lot about the world and what you can do to make it better. Plus, activities like this look good on your resume. Just call or email the local authorities you'd like to help and ask what you can do.
Step 2. Do an internship
Gaining experience in your industry is a productive way to take advantage of the time you don't spend in school. You will learn skills important for your future employment and make contacts in your field. It's never too early to start improving your resume.
It is best to start looking for an internship before the start of the summer, particularly if you are hoping to land a coveted position or a paid internship. However, there are always opportunities for experience. Search the classifieds and vacancies on the internet
Step 3. Find a seasonal job
Earning money is a great way to have a productive vacation. Whether it's the summer or winter break, most employers need more staff during those times. If you're still not old enough to have a job, don't be discouraged. You can earn some money by doing chores in the neighborhood.
Step 4. Organize a flea market in your home
If you have found a lot of things that you no longer need when you cleaned your room, you can sell them at a flea market. The money you earn will be useful to you when school starts again and you will have less time to work.
