Finding aquarium companions for the guppies, who do not bother them and do not try to eat them, can be quite a challenging task. You'll want to make sure the new fish aren't too big - it's best to avoid angelfish, for example, as they can easily eat and bite guppies before they can fully develop their beautiful, long, flowing, characteristic fins.
It is very important to consider this when choosing aquarium companions for guppies. This type of fish is equipped, in fact, with very long and flowing fins, which resemble those of Siamese fighting fish and which many fish love to nibble. Even if your new fish won't eat your poor guppies, they may still bite their fins. Try to be careful
Step 2. Use the following list as a reference to understand which species can be good company for guppies and the reasons why they would be
- Since guppies are viviparous fish, they will give birth to small miniature guppies and not eggs. It may therefore be advisable to include other types of viviparous fish in the aquarium, since they will need the same type of water and will have similar reproduction methods. For example, the platys, beautiful fish with absolutely enchanting colors, are a highly recommended breed. They are fun, hardy, cute, colorful, bright and easy to breed, which makes them great companions for guppies. Both species are extremely economical. However, try to be careful: not all viviparous fish will make good company for your guppies! For example, it would be better to avoid poecilia sphenops.
- Although it might seem strange, honey gourami (Trichogaster chuna) are very compatible with guppies. Even if they are bigger than them, they won't eat them and won't bite their tail. They love peace, space and are quiet, shy and shy. They avoid fighting and aggression, and reproduce from time to time. They are a little more expensive than guppies and platys, but keep in mind that these species are very cheap indeed, so it is virtually impossible to find fish that can compete with them. Most fish will be more expensive than guppies, but not too much.
- Neon fish and cardinal neon are bad aquarium companions for guppies. They have too different habitats and absolutely incompatible water values.
Step 3. Try other species
You don't necessarily have to let your guppies live alongside other fish. For example, you can add invertebrates such as ghost shrimp to your aquarium. They are great to pair with guppies - they are a real natural cleaning team and they are quiet, shy and peaceful! They make a great addition to any aquarium and are highly recommended.
Step 4. Add some bottom fish
In fact, guppies live and swim in the upper and central parts of the aquarium. By adding bottom fish, therefore, you will create a wonderful natural balance inside your aquarium. It may be advisable to add corydoras, as they are very peaceful fish and will just move around the bottom without bothering other fish.
Step 5. Add rasbora
They are not exactly peaceful fish, but the two species tend to ignore each other, and that's what matters: they don't necessarily have to get along, as long as they don't bother each other. Occasionally the various specimens may play with each other, but remember that this is a friendly, not aggressive attitude.
