Toy or dwarf rabbits require a lot of care as they are fragile and delicate. If you need some more information on how to keep them looking their best, this guide is for you.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Cage
Step 1. Buy an indoor cage
Some people leave their bunnies free in the house. It may not be the solution for you though. In that case, you will need a cage. It should be placed in a safe area where there is no risk of being kicked or moved. The cage must have a plastic or wooden bottom, the metal would damage the paws. You can then spread 5 cm of Carefresh type litter. You should also set up a toilet area, a house, a bowl, hay, and a drinking bottle.
Step 2. Build an exercise zone
You can arrange it outside if the lawn is not fertilized and other animals are not using it. Otherwise, choose a part of the house that is circumscribed. In this case you will need to read up on how to make it bunny-proof.
Method 2 of 3: Diet
Step 1. Give him some hay
Hay is the main component of the rabbit diet. He must always have a fresh and unlimited ration every day.
Step 2. Give him some pellets
Choose a good quality one that does not contain seeds or sugars. You should give it 1/4 cup for every 200 grams of the rabbit's weight. The fleo is suitable for rabbits from 7 weeks to grow.
Step 3. Give him fresh fruits and vegetables
2 cups a day of vegetables are fine. A small piece of carrot, banana or strawberry are great rewards for a bunny.
Method 3 of 3: Toys
Step 1. Buy him some hard plastic toys for babies or rabbits
Those for teething are not good, those made of resistant plastic such as keys, on the other hand, can be chewed without problem.
Step 2. Cardboard tubes
You can fill the toilet paper ones with hay or just place them in the cage and let the rabbit play with them. You can also make it a hiding place by cutting the bottom out of a box and making doors and windows out of it.
Step 3. Egg filled with rice
Here's an idea: take a plastic Easter egg and fill it with dry rice, then glue it closed. It's a simple game that your rabbit will love because it plays. Remove it at night or your bunny may keep you awake by playing it endlessly!
Advice
- When you take the bunny off the ground, use two hands, one to support his chest and the other under his butt. Hold it against your chest and always support it.
- Never take him by the ears: you would hurt him.
- Be careful when holding your bunny, do it correctly so as not to scare him and push him to kick.
Warnings
- Children under the age of 9 should always be supervised. Sometimes rabbits bite and hurt.
- Beware of anything that is dangerous for your bunny: electrical cables, small spaces where it can get stuck, etc.
