Snapbacks were born around the mid-90s. They look like normal baseball caps, were it not for the plastic strap on the back to adjust the size. Snapbacks have been and still are a symbol of hip-hop culture, but they can also be worn to pay homage to their origins.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Part 1: Choose the Snapback
Step 1. Choose a snapback that conveys something to you
Choosing it for the color or because it is trendy will immediately make you look like a person who puts on airs. Even if the sport doesn't really interest you, you can wear your local team snapback to show some attachment to your city. Likewise, if your favorite team isn't your hometown team, you can certainly stick with it by wearing its snapback.
Step 2. Pay attention to color and style
While choosing a snapback that has a particular meaning for you may be the best choice, there are cases where you will need to choose a certain color and style. For example, if you support more than one team or if your team caps exist in many different colors, feel free to choose the color that best matches your wardrobe. You can also choose which type of logo is best suited to your personality.
Step 3. Choose between a "vintage" and a "modern" style
Vintage snapbacks have less conspicuous logos and styles, and are made to fit nicely on the head. Many modern snapbacks, worn mostly by teenagers, tend to be looser and have flashy logos and bright colors. Some modern snapbacks also have logos on the sides. If you want a more classic snapback, go for it less flashy. For a more modern style, instead, get a flashy one.
Method 2 of 4: Part 2: Adjust and Wear the Snapback
Step 1. Put on the hat with the visor facing forward
The most common and classic way to wear a snapback is just what it was designed for. Put the hat with the peak forward, so that it shadows your face. The snapback needs to be adjusted so that it fits snugly on your head to keep it from moving back and forth and needs to be placed so that the inner top touches your head enough to keep it flat.
Step 2. Tilt the hat slightly
Turn the hat so that the peak is tilted to one side, away from the forehead, but not completely turned to the side of the head. Keep it slightly raised from your head, without pulling the front or the back completely down, which in any case will be slightly raised compared to the front. Adjust the strap so that the hat is tight enough not to fall off.
If you have long hair, it is advisable to use bobby pins to hold the hat in place
Step 3. Turn the hat backwards
This is probably the least popular way to wear a snapback, and it only makes sense if you dress hip-hop style. The snapback visor should be turned so that it protrudes from the back of your head and the strap is clearly visible on your forehead. Usually the hat is tightened so that it goes well and goes flat on top, but you can also keep it slightly raised.
Method 3 of 4: Part 3: Tips for Kids
Step 1. Put the finishing touches on your casual outfit
After all, the snapback is just a hat. And the function of a hat is to protect the head and face from the sun. For this reason, a snapback can be worn with any combination of t-shirts and jeans, any other casual combination. Snapbacks aren't great if you're dressed smartly and formally, so leave them at home if you're on your way to a job interview or important school meeting.
Step 2. Wear it with sportswear
If you have your favorite team's snapback, wear it with their shirt or scarf as well. You can wear clothes from different teams, especially if they are teams from different sports, but you can also wear everything from the same team. Just be careful not to overdo it. Instead of wearing the snapback, jacket, t-shirt and underpants all with your team logo on, stick to just the cap and another piece of your choice.
Step 3. Urban chic clothes
Since snapbacks are part of hip-hop culture, you can wear them alongside other typical clothes of this style. Look for "urban" brands and wear baggy clothes, like baggies (wide hip-hop pants) and oversized sweatshirts. A nice pair of sneakers is essential. Gold chains and other similar accessories can complete your look. However, if urban style is not for you or new to you, keep it simple or it would seem too excessive.
Step 4. Winks to the 90s
After all, snapbacks were born in those years. Wear a flashy snapback with light jeans and a denim jacket or go for the unmade, "grunge" style with a plaid shirt worn over a pair of worn jeans. Complete the look with sneakers that are at least as flashy as your snapback.
Method 4 of 4: Part 4: Tips for Girls
Step 1. Match the colors
Girls can ignore the rules of devotion to a sports team in the name of fashion. Wear a snapback as you would any other accessory, perhaps in a particular color that makes your outfit stand out or adds a pop of color to an otherwise gray and flat style. However, try not to dress in just one color, as it is at least as old-fashioned as dressing in too much gray, brown, black or white.
Step 2. Stay casual
As with boys, girls should only use snapbacks on casual clothing. T-shirts with prints, sports or plain colors, are a good base to start from. Shirts too, but as long as they are not too refined materials and are paired with a pair of jeans. Sneakers, in some cases, are highly recommended!
Step 3. Make a braid
If you have long hair, a good way to wear the snapback is to make yourself a braid to the side, according to which you can adjust the position of the hat. If you put the braid on one side, make the back opening fall over the braid. If you do two side braids instead, put the hat with the visor facing forward and make the braids low enough not to overlap the snapback.
Step 4. Make a simple queue
The tail is casual, classic and sporty, so it goes well with the sporty style of a snapback. Make a nice high ponytail and hold the brim of the hat forward. Run the tail through the back slit for a better and more comfortable look.
Step 5. Keep your hair down
If you have medium to short length hair, you can leave it as it is, wear the snapback and no one will fault it. You can wear your hair down even if you have it long, but it's not that common. If you have long hair and decide not to tie it up, consider making it wavy or a little curly for a more lively look.
