Did the lyrics of the song Androgyny by Garbage always intrigue you? Are you longing to have the look of young people in Japan, which you are never sure if they are girls or boys? Do you want people to turn to look at you as you walk, wondering if you are a girl or a boy? Are you just dissatisfied with the only aspect granted to your gender role?
Androgyny is characterized by the simultaneous presence of elements of the two sexes. If you are a woman and you want to look androgynous, you are trying to eliminate or minimize some feminine aspects of your personality and your appearance and promote or increase many of the masculine aspects (the opposite occurs for men). Androgyny is different from transsexuality and should not be confused with the latter.
Steps
Step 1. Start shopping and buy clothes that are unisex or follow new trends; for instance:
straight leg trousers, buttoned shirts, cardigans, but nothing too feminine. Preferably in shades of gray, blue, black and red.
Step 2. For your hair, try to get (or get) a masculine cut of a bright or natural black
If you don't have the right face for a very short cut, you can always opt for a bob and style it however you like. Asymmetrical cuts are very popular these days. If you're a guy, let your hair grow out, maybe with a side bang. It's harder to look indefinite for girls with long hair, but if you love your long Barbie hair or can't stand hair on your face, you can rely on traditional hairstyles. Or you could hide your hair under your hat.
Step 3. The size and shape of the eyebrows are other characteristics strongly associated with gender
If you are a man try to pinch the eyebrows giving a more subtle and arched shape. If you are a woman, try to make them grow, following their natural shape.
Step 4. If you are keen on makeup, line your eyes with a gray or black eyeliner, nothing too flashy or obvious
Forget the red lipstick and blush. Stick to foundation, compact powder, and perhaps concealer to hide the pink of your lips (take it easy, otherwise you'll look like a corpse).
Step 5. As for shoes, converse and Oxford are fine
Anything will do as long as it's not too flashy or feminine. The sneakers will be suitable for casual wear.
Step 6. Become independent
Be the kind of person who does things for themselves. You can try cleaning your room, doing your homework, and probably cooking yourself. This will show that you are responsible and autonomous.
Step 7. Avoid wearing soft and poudre colors
But you don't always have to dress in dark colors like black. Other colors like dark blue, green and brown can be neutral. Camouflage is an adequate reason.
Step 8. Compress your breasts if you have it
This betrays. If you are completely flat, a sports bra may be fine, but for those of a larger size it will not work. You'll need some kind of bandage. If you are a B you could use armor of the type used by athletes. You can find this kind of items in sports shops.
Step 9. Cover your legs, unless you shave them
Girls have different legs than men. Try a pair of shapeless pants to hide curves and a loose belt at the hips. Combine a very loose t-shirt that you can wear anywhere.
Step 10. Don't give weight to the opinions of others; what other people think of you doesn't matter
Step 11. Stay fit
When it comes to fitness, well, it can be a little more difficult. Do not practice body building (because it is better to leave some "muscles" not sculpted).
Advice
- Be careful if you decide to bandage your breasts, it could create health problems. If you have difficulty breathing or chest pain, REMOVE the bandage immediately! And never wear it for too long.
- Having an androgynous look doesn't exactly mean dressing up. You can leave behind some aspects of your gender and still seem androgynous. For example, a girl who dresses like a boy, but also nails her nails, might look more androgynous than someone who just dresses like a boy. Often it is a matter of contravening expectations.
- NEVER forget who you are. This is what makes you special.
- Yves Saint Laurent launched the "tuxedo for women" trend. They looked androgynous, but not alien.
- Don't hide who you are. If you are a feminine girl and you want to look androgynous, follow the current trends; the complete men's wardrobe is everywhere.
- Work out. This doesn't mean you need to go to the gym and lift weights every day, it just means you need to be fit and remember to do pushups!
- Go easy on the makeup.
- He almost always wears shoes like Converse. Black would be the ideal color and the Converse are also very comfortable!
