Keeping your eyebrows tidy isn't always easy. Both men and women can heal and shape them. If you put them in the right way, they can positively affect your overall appearance and give you a more groomed appearance.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Determine the Shape of Your Eyebrows
Step 1. Determine where the inner corner of the eyebrow should start
First, you need a white eye pencil - it will allow you to mark this spot. You will also need a card, such as a credit card, which will help you determine where the eyebrow should begin.
- With the tile, draw a vertical line from where the nostril begins to the eyebrow. Mark the point where the tile intersects the eyebrow.
- If you prefer, you can start from the outer corner of the nostril, although this can enlarge the nose.
- Repeat the same process on the other side.
Step 2. Decide where the eyebrow should end
Here, too, you will need a card and a pencil. The end point of the eyebrow is the outer corner, which is the part closest to the ear.
- To delimit it, use the tile to draw a line from the outside point of the nostril. The line should cross the outer corner of the eye, up to the eyebrow.
- Mark this point with a pencil, then repeat on the other side.
Step 3. Create an arc
It can be curved or a little more angled. Either way, it should be at the top of the eyebrow, almost in the center. Again, use the tile to draw a line that will help you determine where the arc should be located.
- The line should start at the outer corner of the nostril and line up with the central part of the pupil.
- You will need to create the arc in the exact spot where the tile touches the eyebrow. Repeat the process on the other side.
Step 4. Draw straight lines with the white pencil
At this point, you need to draw the outline of the eyebrows from one end to the other. Use the tile to draw straight lines, following the natural shape of the eyebrow.
- In other words, starting from the bottom edge of the eyebrow, draw a straight line up to the arch, then draw another from the arch to the outer corner. Repeat the same process to outline the top edge of the eyebrow.
- If you don't want to draw straight lines, you can simply follow the curve of the eyebrow, tapering or thickening it according to your needs. Make sure you don't make it too thin, otherwise the white of the pencil will cover it completely, or almost.
Step 5. Establish the shape of the arch
If you want it to be angled, don't create curves. Instead, keep the lines straight. If you prefer it to be curved, create a curve when drawing the arc.
Part 2 of 4: Shave Eyebrows with Wax or Tweezers
Step 1. Comb your eyebrows with a comb or a special brush
Work upwards towards the forehead and slightly outwards, following the direction of hair growth.
- In this way, all the hairs will be well aligned for possible trimming and hair removal.
- If you don't have an eyebrow brush, you can buy it at a perfumery. It is similar to a mascara brush and is sold individually.
Step 2. Trim long hair with a pair of scissors
As you comb your eyebrow upward, see if there are any hairs that go beyond the lines you created. If you notice any, tick them off with the help of a comb or brush.
- If the hair is particularly long and protrudes above the brush, you can trim it. If you want to wax, make sure you don't cut them too much. The hairs need to be of a certain length for the wax to tear them out - allow for around three weeks of growth.
- Remove the hair you cut.
Step 3. Do not apply skin care products
Before waxing, you must avoid certain cosmetics, as they can sensitize the skin. If you use exfoliating, astringent, or retinol-containing products, the procedure may be more painful.
Step 4. Wax
If you want, you can remove the hairs that are outside the lines you created. To wax, you need specific eyebrow hair removal strips. Before using them, you simply need to warm them in your hands.
- To start, take a depilatory strip and cut it to the size of your choice. Many times it is possible to cut it in half lengthwise. Use a strip that's long enough to pluck half an eyebrow at a time.
- Warm the strip by rubbing it with your fingers.
- Remove the paper backing and adhere the strip to the outer edge of the eyebrow. Tap it with your fingers to make sure you position it well.
- At this point, tear it out with a firm motion to remove the hair.
Step 5. Use tweezers, another tool that allows you to shape your brows
You will also need it after waxing to remove any stubborn hair. Either way, you need to locate the hairs outside the outline you drew and remove them with tweezers.
- Pull out the hair following the direction of growth.
- Before shaving, moisten the affected area with a towel soaked in warm water or take a shower to help remove hair.
- The most effective way to use the tweezers is to get it as close to the skin as possible, as it is easier to grab a hair from the base. But be careful not to pinch yourself.
Step 6. Alternate between the eyebrows when waxing or plucking them with tweezers
This way they will be uniform because you will gradually shape them.
Also, if you focus on just one eyebrow, you may be over-plucking it. Alternating can help you better measure thickness
Step 7. Depilate them with tweezers or wax every two to three weeks
Some like to do tweezers every day, the problem is that you risk thinning them too much. Before determining whether or not you need to proceed with hair removal, wait for the hair to grow back at least in part.
If you shave them too often, you may be removing hair that is actually needed to fill in your eyebrows. Sure, you don't want them to be bushy, but they don't have to be invisible either
Part 3 of 4: Shaping a Man's Eyebrows
Step 1. Prefer tweezers to waxing
Waxing gives a cleaner result, but it can also be too precise for a man. Some beauticians suggest using tweezers because thick, naturally shaped brows are more suitable for men.
- Straight lines can feel too artificial for a man, as if you have drawn your eyebrows rather than just retouching their natural shape.
- Start by plucking the lower part of the eyebrow. Sometimes it is not necessary to touch the top one.
- In general, your goal is to get rid of unwanted hair and slightly define the arch.
Step 2. Trim the hair
After plucking your brows with tweezers, peel off the top with a pair of eyebrow scissors. This will help you get a clean result, but without making it too artificial. This is why tweezers and eyebrow scissors are preferable to waxing for men. To start, comb the hair up and out with a small brush or comb.
- You can also use a mascara brush instead of a brush.
- Try to cut the hair along the top of the eyebrow - you will get a more precise and clean result. To make the cut, you can help yourself with a brush or a comb. Use a pair of eyebrow scissors.
Step 3. Consider your age
For the younger ones, the unibrow can be acceptable, even sexy. However, most beauticians recommend getting rid of it over the years, as this will give you a more youthful and well-groomed appearance.
- To get rid of the central part of a monocle, you can use a depilatory strip. Buy a pack of eyebrow strips. Warm them in your hands.
- Align the inner corner of the eyebrow to where the nostril begins. Adhere the strip to the hair you want to remove. Massage it with your fingers, then tear it off with a quick motion.
Step 4. Use an eyebrow gel
If you just want to style them, consider a gel. There are transparent and colored ones: choose the product that best suits your needs. If you don't want to color them, a clear gel will allow you to define and shape them.
- Most gels have a brush very similar to that of mascara. Remove it from the tube and apply it to your eyebrows. There are also gels sold in small transparent containers that must be removed with a special brush (usually, they are available separately).
- Apply it on the eyebrows upwards, following the direction of hair growth. Let it dry.
Part 4 of 4: Using the Best Tools and Products
Step 1. Try a hair conditioner
Sometimes the eyebrows can become bristly and untamable, just like the hair. The conditioner will soften them and make them easier to work with.
- To start, moisten a towel with warm water and place it on your eyebrows. Let it sit for a minute or two to moisten and warm it up.
- If you have a leave-in conditioner, apply a small amount to each eyebrow, making sure to massage it well to prevent it from getting into your eyes.
- If you want to use a classic conditioner, choose a thick one. Apply enough to cover each eyebrow and let it sit for about five minutes. Try not to look up or it will end up on your lashes. Finally, wipe it off with a sponge, then wash your eyebrows thoroughly. You can also do this treatment in the shower, but be careful not to get the product in your eyes.
- There are specific conditioners for eyebrows, but they cost more. Some of these products promise to promote hair growth.
Step 2. Use a pencil to better define the brows
Available in different colors, you can use the pencils to shape and fill in the eyebrows. Choose a color that matches your hair or slightly darker.
- To better define them, outline the lower part of the eyebrows following the hairline.
- To fill them in, draw short strokes along the entire eyebrow, following the direction of the hair. Once you are done, comb them with a brush to even them out.
Step 3. Consider powder products, which can help you fill in your brows
If possible, use an eyebrow palette. Once you have identified the powder that is closest to your hair color, choose a lighter and darker powder. You will also need a wax (which must be applied before the powder) and a concealer (which allows you to better define the shape). These two products are sometimes included with the kit.
- To start, comb your eyebrows with a small brush.
- Pick up some wax with your finger. Run it along the eyebrow, following the direction of hair growth.
- First, apply the darker powder to the bow with an angled brush. Draw short strokes upwards, following the direction of hair growth. Take the lighter powder and start applying it on the inside of the eyebrow, working towards the arch. As you get closer to the bow, blend it out.
- You can fix the powder by gently applying an eyebrow gel.
Step 4. Consider a tinted brow gel with a creamy consistency
It is a product that shapes and colors the eyebrows. After combing them, you can use it to get a more precise and defined result. Choose one that suits your hair color.
- Apply the gel along the underside of the eyebrow (at the hairline) with a sharp, angled brush tip. Don't start exactly where the inner corner of the eyebrow begins - calculate a couple of millimeters inwards. Proceed with the application up to the outer corner, pinning it as much as you like. If you want to apply gel right where the inner corner of the eyebrow begins, go for a lighter product, but still avoid starting right at the edge. If you use a light color, be sure to blend it with the darker one.
- After drawing a line, gently blend it with the rest of the eyebrow using the brush.
- You can also draw a line across the top to define your brows even more, especially if they're particularly thick.
Step 5. Consider brow mascara
This product gives body and volume to the brows, so it is ideal if you prefer them thick. Also, it colors them.
- The packaging of eyebrow mascaras is similar to that of eyelash mascaras.
- Start applying it from the outer edge and work towards the inner edge, going against the direction of hair growth. At this point, repeat in the opposite direction.
- If you want your brows to be even thicker, repeat.
Step 6. Consider a mattifying gel cream, which has the function of controlling shine
After removing the hair, the underlying skin can be shiny. A mattifying gel cream can remedy the problem, so as not to emphasize this part of the face.
Just apply a small amount to the area you have shaved. For example, you could pat it between the eyebrows
Step 7. Invest in tweezers
If you've had one for years and it's lying unused in the bottom of a clutch, it's time to buy a new one. Old tweezers are not sharp, so the procedure will be slower.
- Choose a tweezer with a slanted edge, which gradually sharpens. With such tweezers, it is easier to pluck hair than with a fully pointed one.
- Buy stainless steel tweezers, which generally do not cause irritation. It is also easy to clean and long lasting.
Step 8. Retrieve old tweezers
If you can't buy a new one, sharpen the one you already have. To do this easily, just rub a nail file along the edge you use to pluck the hair, to create a better grip.
- You can also rub sandpaper along the edge.
- Clean the tweezers after each use with isopropyl alcohol.
Step 9. When plucking your eyebrows, try to have good lighting
If possible, invest in a set of makeup station lights to make sure you get a good view of the area. Alternatively, you can shave them in a well-lit bathroom.
- If you don't have a good light source, use natural light. Go to a window to get a better look at your brows.
- A magnifying mirror can also help you see better.
