Having naturally thick eyebrows may be considered a flaw by some, but consider yourself lucky - it is much easier to get rid of hair than to make it grow! If you want to thin your eyebrows, you must first trim them to prevent them from being excessively long. Then, shape them and remove unwanted hair with tweezers to make them appear defined and subtle. If you don't want to make drastic changes, finish them and shape them with the help of make-up.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Shorten the Eyebrows
Step 1. Comb the eyebrows upwards
Comb all the hair towards the forehead using a fine-toothed comb or a small brush. This procedure helps to spot excessively long hair.
Step 2. Hold the comb over the top edge of the eyebrow
Comb your eyebrows upwards, stop the comb at the point where the teeth remain positioned slightly above the upper edge. Any hair that goes beyond the teeth of the comb should be trimmed.
Step 3. Trim the hair above the brow line with a pair of hairdressing scissors
Use sharp eyebrow or hair scissors to trim the hair that protrudes from the teeth of the comb. Continue combing upwards and trimming excess hair to thin the eyebrows and make them less thick.
- If you are not sure how much to cut, at the beginning it only slightly ticks. Then, comb your brows to the side again to bring the hair back to its original position. If the hair continues to seem excessively long, comb it upwards again and trim it once more.
- This way you should get a natural result, but avoid them looking neglected.
Step 4. Comb the eyebrows downward to trim off additional unwanted hair
If they still look overly thick, try combing them down with a thin comb or brush. Holding the brush on the lower edge of the eyebrow, check out the hairs that extend beyond the brush. Comb your eyebrows again to bring them back to their starting position.
Method 2 of 3: Shape and Shave the Eyebrows
Step 1. Wash your face with warm water before shaving your eyebrows
To start, wash your face with the cleanser of your choice and lukewarm water so that the skin is thoroughly cleansed. Washing also helps dilate the hair follicles, allowing the hair to come out more easily. Pat your face dry with a clean towel.
Step 2. Apply anesthetic gel to the eyebrows
Shaving your eyebrows can be painful. To ease the discomfort, squeeze a drop of teething gel onto your finger. Then, massage it on the areas you intend to shave.
Step 3. Mark the shape you want to achieve with a clear brow pencil
Define the outline by creating dots, then connect them together by drawing a line. The hairs that remain outside the contour must be eliminated. Instead, avoid removing the hairs that are in the outline. You can use a pencil to help you figure out where the eyebrow begins and where it ends.
- Place one end of the pencil in the center of the nose, keeping it vertical. To locate the arc, tilt the other end of the pencil until it overlaps the iris. Mark this point with the pencil.
- Place the pencil vertically next to the nostril. The eyebrow must begin at the point where the pencil meets the brow bone.
- Place one end of the pencil in the center of the nose and tilt the other end until it overlaps the outer corner of the eye. This is where the eyebrow should end.
Step 4. Remove unwanted hair under the brow bone
Stretch the skin under the brow bone with your fingers to make hair removal less painful and complicated. To thin and define your brows, remove unwanted hair with tweezers in the direction of growth.
Step 5. Remove unwanted hair between the eyebrows
Remove the hair between the eyebrows with tweezers to make them appear less thick.
Step 6. Eliminate unwanted hair that is beyond the end of the eyebrow
Remove excess hair that extends beyond the outer edge of the eyebrow using tweezers. This also helps to thin them and make them less dense.
Step 7. Remove the hair under the inner corner of the eyebrow
The inner corner and the outer corner of the eyebrows should be at the same height. If the inner corner is too low, lift it by removing the hair from the bottom.
Step 8. Remove unwanted hair above the eyebrows
If you see excess hair protruding from the upper contour of the eyebrows, remove it. However, avoid overdoing it. Eliminate only the unwanted hair that protrudes from the traced outline.
Step 9. Massage a cortisone cream on the shaved area
Hair removal can cause redness and / or irritation. Buy an over-the-counter cortisone cream and tap it on the affected area to reduce inflammation.
Method 3 of 3: Using Eyebrow Cosmetics
Step 1. Use a specific gel to discipline long hair
If your brows are particularly thick due to the length of the hair, try using an eyebrow gel to fix them. Brush the product upwards and outwards in order to obtain thin and manicured eyebrows.
Step 2. Try defining your brows with ointment
Ointments are similar to gels, except for a few differences. Although they allow you to define them better, they are not as effective for fixing hair. Apply the product just as if it were a gel, combing the eyebrows upwards and outwards to create a well-groomed and natural effect.
Step 3. Fill in your brows in moderation
If they are thick, don't overdo your makeup to get a subtle, neat effect. If you want to fill them in with a pencil or brow powder, opt for a color that is a couple of tones lighter than the hair, then apply it by drawing short, light strokes.
Advice
If you want a softer look, try dyeing your brows in a lighter color
Warnings
- If you use a magnifying mirror to pluck your eyebrows, you risk removing more hair than necessary. Instead, use a regular mirror in a well-lit room.
- Don't trim your brows with a beard trimmer, or you may end up with an uneven length.
- Do not pluck your eyebrows using chore scissors. Eyebrow or hair clippers are smaller and sharper, therefore more precise.
- Try not to pluck your eyebrows in a different direction than where they grow, otherwise the hair may break and become ingrown.
