Fluff is the collection of broken and loose threads that accumulate on clothes. Removing it can be a hassle, especially if the clothes are black. To prevent black clothing from being littered with white or gray fluff, you can use a sticky brush or items and products you have around the house. You can also follow some steps to prevent lint from forming on black robes so that they look shiny, clean and tidy.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Remove Fluff with Household Items
Step 1. Use duct tape
To remove the lint, you can use common objects, such as scotch tape or any type of adhesive tape. Fold a small piece of it so that it has two adhesive sides, then place one side on your finger and use it to remove lint from black clothes.
If you are trying to remove lint from a large area, you may want to try using a sheet of adhesive film or drawer paper. Press it onto the fabric and roll it until you have removed it completely
Step 2. Try running the pumice stone on your clothes
You can try this trick too: usually used to remove dead skin from feet, it can also be effective against lint. You can buy it at the pharmacy or online.
It's best to try it on a small piece of fabric first to make sure it doesn't damage it in any way. Materials such as silk or thin nylon could tear
Step 3. Remove the lint with a dampened antistatic dryer sheet
It can often be an effective option, if rubbed damp on the fabric until all the lint is removed.
Alternatively, you can use the dryer and a clean antistatic sheet. Set the "air only" program by arranging the clothes inside the machine with an antistatic sheet: when you take them out they should be free of lint
Step 4. Wash your clothes in the washing machine
You can also try washing them to remove the lint. If you are afraid they will spoil, turn them upside down before washing; if they are already covered in lint, wash them with the affected side out to remove it.
Method 2 of 3: Use a lint remover
Step 1. Purchase a lint brush
You can effectively remove lint with a similar tool, which consists of a pad or tape of sticky paper that you can slide over your clothes. It is available in supermarkets or online.
You may decide to purchase a large brush that can cover a large area so that a good amount of lint can be removed in one stroke. Otherwise, you could opt for a smaller one to use when you are about to go out and need to remove some lint from your clothes
Step 2. Swipe it over your black clothes
Once you have purchased it you can start using it to remove lint. Lay your clothes on a flat, raised surface, such as a table, then go for large sweeps to remove the lint - work in sections so that no spots are left uncovered.
If there is a large amount of lint, more than one pass may be required. If your wiper has sticky paper tape, tear off one sheet after each pass so you always have a new one to remove lint
Step 3. Keep the brush close at hand
If you often have problems with lint on black clothes, it is best to keep the brush in an easy-to-reach place, such as your backpack or purse or your office desk. This way you can easily grab it whenever you need it.
Method 3 of 3: Prevent Black Clothes From Getting Covered With Fluff
Step 1. Wash them less frequently
Washing them too often can cause lint to form, as each wash loosens the threads of the fabric and causes lumps. Try to wash clothes that tend to form fluff less frequently: excessive washing can ruin them in other ways as well, so it is better to limit the frequency.
- For example, if you have a black sweater that you usually wear over a tank top, you might want to try wearing it a couple of times before washing it.
- However, if you sweat while wearing it, you may need to wash it more often to get rid of the odor. You can also try hanging it outside to air it out and reuse it without having to wash it.
Step 2. Let your clothes dry in the open air
Tumble drying them too often can cause fluff - try hanging black items outside to limit their formation.
Step 3. Clean the dryer of lint before using it
If you use it to dry your clothes, be sure to clean it before putting it into operation - you should check for lint inside and remove it.
