Can't you go to the beach? No problem: you can create a private one! Whether you want to build one indoors, in the garden or near a pond, you will have a personal beach all year round.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Create a Home Beach
Step 1. Sprinkle sand on the patio or porch tiles
For the record, however, putting sand in the house can create a lot of disorder. While relegating this space to the veranda, it will end up everywhere in one way or another. It would be better to opt for the patio. In any case, if you have no problem finding the sand here and there (or you will pay the utmost attention), you can safely cross the threshold of the house. Make sure you have enough to cover the area at least eight inches deep.
-
Artificial sand can be found in several shops selling household items, but you can also get real sand on the beach, both of which are fine. Can't you find it anywhere? There is always that wonderful medium called the internet.
Step 2. Consider the color scheme and materials you will be using
When you think of the beach, do you think of neutral or vibrant and tropical shades? Nothing to say about personal tastes, each color can evoke completely different sensations. Are you imagining the Italian beaches or the Thai ones? The Hawaiian ones or the Spanish ones? A Tahitian hut or one on the lake?
-
As for the materials, it is better to focus on natural as much as possible. Wood, bamboo and light linen are the first that come to mind without putting too much effort. Stay away from plastic and metal, so that the theme is uniform, coherent and clear.
Step 3. Evaluate the enlightenment
If you create the beach on the patio, you won't even have to think about it, but if you make it indoors, you will have to let the sun in. Open all windows; if necessary, get light, flowing curtains in light colors, which will let the breeze in softly. The room should be as bright and airy as possible.
-
If you are a beach lover at night, adding candles is also a good idea, very romantic.
Step 4. Arrange deck chairs, otherwise you will find yourself having to sit on the sand of the patio
Resealable plastic chairs are also good, easy to move, but it must be said that those made of wood or bamboo are even better.
-
Don't have enough space? You can always add a wooden bench, use towels, or place pieces of wood to sit on.
Step 5. If you like, fill a garden pool with water and add a touch of low-sodium salt
If you have kids, they will love it! Just make sure there is enough room around for dips - the whole area could get drenched.
Not a fan of swimming pools? Try a fountain to introduce the aquatic element: it has a calming effect and gives the area natural, soothing sounds
Step 6. Add the finishing touches
Depending on the type of beach you want to create, there are so many extra touches that can inspire you. Consider some of the following ideas:
- Shells.
- Plant.
- Music (prepare a stereo or bluetooth audio system to echo the sound of waves and seagulls or summer music).
Method 2 of 2: Create a Garden Beach
Step 1. Get enough sand to cover the entire area at least 16cm deep
You can use both natural and artificial sand, think about your tastes and availability. Decomposed granite works just as well as a base and is easy to shape into dunes. Make a map of the area before you get it and remember that it is always better to abound.
It would be better to work on clayey soil, because it holds sand better
Step 2. Buy a perforated PVC tarpaulin so the ground below does not lose its moisture
Covering the garden with sand won't exactly do wonders for the natural composition of the soil. Get a tarp so that moisture and air pass organically into the soil. It also helps prevent sand from getting into the natural soil of the garden.
-
These tarps can be found at garden supply stores, although you are sure to find many more options available online.
Step 3. Build a fence to mimic the sea horizon
If you don't have masses of water near you, that's no problem! Build a fence around the beach and paint the bottom dark blue and the top light blue to recreate the horizon of the sea, giving depth to the area. You will get a natural result, because these colors are not too bright and annoying.
-
The fence also delimits the beach area. It keeps the sand inside, defines this space and doesn't let anyone in without your permission!
Step 4. Add a fire pit
How could you ever call it a beach if you can't have a bonfire? You can also give an old charcoal barbecue a new use; open the ventilation holes and embed it in the sand. If you don't have one, you can always make a fire pit.
Of course, check the laws first, maybe you can't do it in your area
Step 5. Add a few more details to finish the beach
Now that you have the sand, the fence and the fire pit, what else do you need? Here are some ideas to have an even more attractive beach:
- Garden chairs.
- Sea games.
- Table.
- Beach umbrella.
- Plant.
- Pieces of wood carried to the shore by the current.
- Music system.
Step 6. If you are going to build it near a lake or other body of water, consider other factors:
- Make sure you build a retaining wall for the sand, you don't want it to go into the water. You can do this by building a sandpit that starts underwater, surrounding the sand with timber, or surrounding it with a concrete bead.
- Remember to indicate this containment wall with buoys; if people enter the water, they will not hit their feet against this obstacle.
- Buy a sand rake for the weeds that will inevitably sprout; it may also be necessary to run the tiller over the sand a couple of times a year.
