When you create a sculpture or a papier-mâché pignata or a work of art with decoupage, you need to use a very strong papier-mâché adhesive. Try using one of the following recipes and start working on your DIY paper mache!
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Create the Glue on the Fire
Step 1. Put the water on the fire
Measure half a glass of water and put it in a saucepan. Turn on the gas and boil it.
Step 2. Make your own flour mix
In a bowl, mix half a cup of flour, half a cup of cold water and ¾ of a teaspoon of salt. Mix well to create a watery paste.
Step 3. Mix the ingredients
Pour the flour mixture into the boiling water and mix, letting it boil for five minutes. Then, turn off the heat and keep stirring until a thick dough forms.
Step 4. Wait for it to cool
After a thick dough has formed, let it cool until it is cold enough to touch. If you are in a hurry, you may want to consider leaving it on the stove off for 15 minutes, and then placing it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes.
Step 5. Stir before use
As soon as the dough has reached room temperature it is ready to be used! Apply it to your papier mache project with a brush for a thin layer. Don't worry about reheating it unless it's too thick to use. Store the excess in a glass container in the refrigerator.
Method 2 of 3: Create the Glue by Shaking it
Step 1. Combine the ingredients
Add half a cup of flour, half a cup of cold water and 3 / $ of a teaspoon of salt to a plastic bag. If you want you can add dye to change the color of your glue.
Step 2. Mix the ingredients
Close the plastic bag tightly. Then shake it vigorously to mix the ingredients. Use your fingers to loosen any lumps of flour that may have formed.
Step 3. Finish the glue
When you are sure that the dough is well mixed, you can cut a corner of the bag.
Step 4. Use your papier mache glue
Hold the bag as if it were a piping bag and gently squeeze the glue out of the corner you cut. Use a paintbrush to smear the glue over the object you are working on.
Method 3 of 3: Create a Glue Using White Glue
Step 1. Put your ingredients together
To create this glue, you will need very simple vinavil glue, cold water and a bowl to mix everything.
Step 2. Mix the ingredients
Add three parts of glue to one part of water in the bowl. Use a spoon to stir the ingredients so that the glue and water are perfectly mixed.
Step 3. Use glue
The glue is ready to use as soon as it has been mixed with water. Use a paintbrush to smear the glue onto the paper mache.
Advice
- Make sure to thoroughly clean the bowls you are using to create the glue immediately after use, to avoid having to clean dried glue later.
-
Add a teaspoon of cinnamon to the glue to cover the unpleasant smell of water and flour.
