Fluffy slime (or slime with a spongy effect) is a softer and lighter type of slime, fun to use for play or to fight stress. While most recipes call for glue, there are a number of ways to make it with other ingredients. While it doesn't last as long as other types of slime, it's possible to make it with just a few ingredients you probably already have at home!

Make Slime with Shampoo and Corn Starch
- 120 ml of shampoo
- 250 ml of shaving foam
- 30 g of corn starch
- 80 ml of water
- Food coloring (optional)
Makes about 250ml of slime
Making Frozen Spongy Effect Slime
- 60ml thick shampoo
- 250 ml of shaving foam
- ½ teaspoon of table salt
- Food coloring (optional)
Makes about 180ml of slime
Use a Peel Off Face Mask
- 120ml peel off face mask
- 250 ml of shaving foam
- ½ teaspoon of cornstarch
- ½ teaspoon of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon of contact lens solution
- Food coloring (optional)
Makes about 250ml of slime
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Making Slime with Shampoo and Corn Starch
Step 1. Squeeze about 120ml of shampoo into a bowl
Choose a shampoo that smells good and isn't overly liquid. Measure it, then pour it into a large bowl.
- You could also use a 2 in 1 shampoo / conditioner or a 3 in 1 shampoo / conditioner / shower gel. As long as you use a shampoo, you should be able to make the slime without difficulty.
- If you prefer not to put the shampoo in the measuring jugs you use in the kitchen, you can squeeze the necessary amount directly into the bowl by measuring it by eye. You can always add more shampoo or cornstarch to get the right consistency if the result is not satisfactory.
Step 2. Add 250ml of shaving cream to the shampoo
Shake a can of shaving foam vigorously to make sure it comes out thick and full-bodied. Point the nozzle of the can on a measuring jug and spray a knob of product. Pour it into the bowl using a spoon and mix it with the shampoo.
Make sure you use shaving cream instead of shaving lotion. To make the spongy effect slime, the product must be foamy and soft
Step 3. Use food coloring or essential oils to customize the slime
Shampoo and shaving cream will likely have a white or rather light color. If you want to make the slime more colorful and pleasing to the eye, add a few drops of food coloring, then mix to incorporate it. If you want to change the smell of the slime, add 1 or 2 drops of an essential oil of your choice.
By adding more food coloring, the slime will acquire a vibrant color. If you want a lighter pastel color, just add 1 or 2 drops to the mixture
Step 4. Stir in 30g of cornstarch to thicken the slime
Measure the starch and pour it into the mixture. Start mixing everything with a wooden spoon or similar object until the mixture thickens and obtains the desired consistency.
It may be necessary to use larger amounts of starch to get the right consistency. Start with 30g and add more as needed
Step 5. Incorporate 80ml of water by adding 1 tablespoon at a time
Pour about 80ml of water into a separate bowl. Take a spoonful and pour it into the slime mixture, stirring until everything is combined. Repeat the same process 4 or 5 times, until all the water is incorporated into the mixture.
The amount of water to be added from time to time does not have to be exact. If you don't want to use a spoon, add one splash at a time
Step 6. Knead the slime for about 5 minutes
Remove it from the bowl and place it on a flat, clean surface. Start working it with your hands, stretching it and then squeezing it again. After about 5 minutes the slime should become supple and manageable, so it will be ready for use.
- If the slime continues to be too sticky, add a little more cornstarch and knead it. Repeat this process until you get a satisfactory consistency.
- If you want to make it more original, add some styrofoam balls or a handful of glitter to the dough. With polystyrene you will get a crunchy slime (which will produce a crunch), while with glitter it will become shimmery.
Step 7. Store the slime in an airtight container for 2 to 3 days
When you are done playing with it, pick up any bits that have fallen off. Store it in an airtight container or bag for up to 3 days. After a few days it will lose its texture and become too sticky to play with easily.
Method 2 of 3: Create a Frozen Spongy Slime
Step 1. Measure 60ml of thick shampoo and pour into a freezer-safe bowl
In order for the slime to acquire the right consistency, you will need a fairly thick shampoo. Squeeze your chosen product into a freezer-safe bowl.
- Using a thick shampoo makes the slime softer and more supple. Choose the thickest shampoo you can find to get the best result.
- You can also use a 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 product, as long as it contains shampoo.
Step 2. Incorporate 250ml of shaving cream into the shampoo
Point the can nozzle at a measuring jug and press it. Spray the product until you get about 250 ml, and then move it into the bowl with the help of a spoon. Mix the shampoo and shaving cream using a wooden spoon or similar object.
- Shake the can of shaving cream for a few seconds before spraying it.
- Make sure you use shaving cream, but avoid spray aftershave lotions. It is good that the foam is as light and soft as possible, so that the slime also acquires these properties.
Step 3. Add about ½ teaspoon of table salt to finish making the slime and make sure it gets the right consistency
Table salt helps thicken the ingredients to turn the shampoo and shaving cream into slime. Pour the salt into the bowl and mix for a couple of minutes. The mixture should become elastic and viscous.
- If the slime doesn't thicken properly, add an extra pinch of salt and keep stirring. The amount of salt to add varies according to the type of shampoo used.
- The mixture should start to look like a slime, but it will still be quite soft and sticky.
Step 4. Freeze the slime for 15-20 minutes
Once the mixture begins to compact, place the bowl in the freezer to allow it to thicken. After about 15 minutes you can remove it and start playing! If after some time the slime starts to soften, put it back in the freezer until it regains its original consistency and makes it moldable again.
Leaving the slime in the freezer for too long will cause it to become solid and consequently playing with it will be quite difficult. Similarly, leaving it out will begin to melt and become too sticky. Once you're done playing it, throw it away to avoid these problems
Method 3 of 3: Use a Peel Off Face Mask
Step 1. In a bowl, mix the peel off face mask with a dab of shaving foam
Measure out about 120ml of a peel off face mask that contains polyvinyl alcohol and pour it into a bowl. Add about 250ml of shaving cream and mix.
- Polyvinyl alcohol is the same active ingredient found in the glue typically used to make slime, making it a perfect substitute. Make sure the mask you choose contains this ingredient in the list.
- You can add more or less shaving foam to change the texture of the slime and make it more or less spongy according to your preferences.
Step 2. Add cornstarch and baking soda to thicken the slime
Measure ½ teaspoon of starch and ½ teaspoon of baking soda. Pour them into the face mask and shaving cream mixture, then mix it all together using a wooden spoon or similar object.
- The mixture will begin to thicken, but it has not yet acquired the classic consistency of slime.
- Make sure you have mixed all the ingredients evenly before continuing.
Step 3. Activate the slime with about 1 teaspoon of contact lens solution
This product contains boric acid, which activates the PVA of the mask and turns it into slime. Add a few drops of solution at a time, mixing well to make sure you get a homogeneous mixture. Keep adding the liquid until you have a thick, elastic and spongy slime.
- The amount of solution to add depends on the amount of boric acid it contains and on the type of mask used. Just add enough to get the perfect consistency.
- If you prefer a more elastic slime, add a couple of tablespoons of water. Knead it with water until it stops feeling moist to the touch.
Step 4. Store the slime in an airtight container for 1 week
Once you're done playing with it, move it to an airtight container or bag. It should remain mouldable and clean for up to a week. Throw it away after a week or even earlier if it starts to look visibly dirty.
Advice
- If the slime gets too chewy, add some hand lotion or moisturizer and knead to incorporate it. This should make it soft and supple again.
- Add only a small amount of contact lens solution or activator at a time. Adding too much product can harden the slime and make it less moldable.
- You can add any ingredients you want to the slime to make it even more fun to play with. You can use food coloring, glitter, or beads to change its appearance and texture.
Warnings
- If the slime gets dirty, moldy, sticky or difficult to handle, throw it away.
- You should always wash your hands after playing with slime, especially before eating.
