Children love animals, whether it's going to see them at the zoo or having them at home. They love animals of all shapes and sizes, whether they are covered in fur, scales or feathers, and enjoy drawing and coloring them. This article contains a large selection of instructions and illustrations suitable for teaching children how to draw their favorite animal, including insects, pets and ocean creatures.
Steps
Step 1. Draw a caterpillar with rounded "M" shapes and a circular figure for the head
Give your caterpillar a radiant smile, two cute antennae and, if you wish, even some fresh leaves to munch on.
Step 2. Draw a butterfly using several simple shapes and patterns
Try to create wings that are as symmetrical as possible and color your design using multiple shades.
Step 3. Draw a frog ready to leap
Your point of view can be front or side, the important thing is that the angle of the hind legs is the correct one.
Step 4. Draw a hamster with small legs and long whiskers
Color it using two different shades of brown, a lighter one for the belly and a darker one for the upper coat.
Step 5. Draw a rabbit that can keep your hamster company.
Choose to draw a domestic rabbit, as shown in the image, or a cartoon rabbit, such as Bugs Bunny. The choice is yours!
Step 6. Draw a turtle
Practice your skills by drawing a cartoon-style turtle, a realistic turtle, or even a snapping turtle. If you wish you can even draw them all!
Step 7. Draw a monkey
Drawing this animal is slightly more complicated, but the result will be fabulous: you will get the portrait of a big-eyed, long-tailed baby monkey.
Step 8. Draw a grazing cow
The more you want to make the cow realistic, the more challenges you will face. Don't be scared though, you'll be able to create a fabulous cow while respecting the correct proportions.
Step 9. Draw a fish, whether you want to make it cartoonish or, more realistically, gray and scaly
If you prefer a fish that can be kept indoors, choose to breed a tender goldfish.
Step 10. Draw a dolphin jumping out of the water
Use a darker shade to color the underside of the animal.
Advice
- Go over the final drawing with a black pen or pencil.
- To give your creations a more realistic look, while drawing your pets' fur, try using colored pencils adding more definition and depth.
- If you want to color the drawing using markers or watercolors, use a sufficiently thick sheet of paper and go over the pencil strokes before proceeding.
- To make it easy to erase any mistakes, draw the lines in pencil using light strokes.
