Framing a poster helps keep it better and protect it from the ravages of time. Plus, it adds a touch of formality. Rather than hanging it directly on the wall, like a teenager would do in his bedroom. Here are some tips for framing a poster.
Steps
Step 1. Take the dimensions of your poster with tape or ruler
Step 2. Decide whether to apply a frame of the same size or to take it 1 or 2 centimeters larger
The extra space on the bottom can be occupied by a decorative element, which also protects the corners of the poster.
Step 3. Purchase an appropriate frame
Try to get one made of high quality plexiglass, with a thickness greater than 0.31 cm. Prefer plexiglass to glass, which could crack or allow moisture to enter the frame, damaging the poster. Low quality plexiglass may cause the poster to yellow over time.
Step 4. Buy some poster supports to apply on the frame, please check that they do not contain acids
Some frames are sold in kits already including support inside the frame.
Step 5. Unscrew the hinges on the back of the frame
Insert the holder if necessary.
Step 6. Slide the poster into the frame to check if it fits
Adjust the position of the poster within the frame if necessary.
Step 7. Clean the plexiglass and let it dry before closing the hinges
Hang up the poster.
Step 8. Go to a professional framer if you don't want to do it yourself
Advice
- Try making a frame by putting together a cut-to-size piece of plexiglass and individual frame pieces.
- To get a cheap frame, try to buy a cheap painting, perhaps on offer, the right size for your poster.
- You can buy poster frames of all kinds online. Some frames have a support, while others can be freely hung on the walls. The material used varies from wood to metal etc.
- Typically the poster is safe once framed. If you are unsure you can secure it further with adhesive tape on the back.
