Maybe you are a collector of memorabilia just for fun or you hope to make money by reselling them: the important thing is to be able to exhibit your pieces while preserving their value. You can do this in different ways, including using frames and display cases. If you have a copy of a sports shirt, use a frame to display the garment. Follow the steps below to learn how to frame a sports shirt.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Prepare the Frame
Step 1. Purchase the frame
To display a sports shirt, use a display frame, which is usually a shallow rectangular box, with a frame and glass in the front, ideal for displaying and protecting bulky items. The inside of the frame should have at least 2.5cm of space between the glass and your shirt. Typical frame measurements are 100cm by 80cm.
- Choose a lacquered or painted frame in a color that matches the shirt and your decor.
- Look for a case with anti - UV glass.
- There are frames designed specifically for T-shirts, but they tend to be expensive. A display case with the right dimensions will be cheaper.
Step 2. Select a media
Unlike the usual picture frame, the cardboard included in the display case may not be right for your project. For a t-shirt, typically you need a polystyrene support and archival paper to put on top. You can choose or not to use a passepartout card all around for an extra effect.
- Many photo frames use dry mounting (with heat and glue) to prepare the backing for the frame. In this case the archival paper is attached to the support.
- The backing should be neutral in color to complement your shirt.
Step 3. Get the rest of the accessories
To complete your project, you will also need adhesive tape, a cutter, a sewing needle, clear thread and all the other material you will need for assembly. You will probably need an iron in order to prepare the shirt for the stand and be able to spread it inside the frame.
Part 2 of 2: Assemble the T-shirt
Step 1. Prepare your support
Cut the styrofoam or cardboard to a suitable shape using a utility knife. The stand should be the same size as the frame. Then arrange the card on top. If you are dry mounting the mount, you should do it now.
Step 2. Cut the polystyrene in order to place it inside the shirt and then put everything inside the frame
This will give the jersey support and thickness. In particular, you will have to cut out a rectangle of polystyrene based on the size of the torso. You will need to insert it into the shirt in order to secure it well, possibly using pins.
Step 3. Fold the shirt
Whatever the way used to fold the shirt, the logos and symbols must be visible inside the frame. Lay out your shirt on the table and fold the sleeves back so that they fall down. Use the iron to keep the shirt in this position: it will be stored in the frame as well.
Step 4. Sew the shirt to the card stock
With needle and thread, attach the back of the shirt to the card stock, being careful not to sew through the front of the shirt. Sew all around the shirt and then tie a knot in the thread to keep it in place and so that nothing moves inside the frame.
Step 5. If well secured and placed on the support, you can store the mesh inside the frame
Be careful not to remove it as you insert it, preventing it from touching the glass, as condensation can cause mold to appear. Secure the back of the frame. Are you done!
Advice
- If you don't want to sew the shirt to card stock, use pins.
- The best places to sew the shirt to card are the bottom of the shirt, just below the collar and at the beginning of the sleeves.
- Display any autographs on the shirt by placing them with the autograph towards the outside of the frame.
- When handling glass or plexiglass, keep it on the edges to avoid leaving fingerprints on the inside of the frame.
Warnings
- Not too cut the paper before placing it inside her shirt. The shirt should be well stretched over the card.
- Use small needles when sewing the shirt, as larger needles could damage your garment.
- If you need to sew the front of the shirt to card stock, make sure the thread is the same color as the shirt.
