Are you bored watching the rain? Would you desperately want to go out? Instead of drowning in boredom, find something fun to do!
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Have fun
Step 1. Cook something
One of the best ways to keep busy on a rainy day is to cook. You'll take up your time and use the pantry ingredients you've always wanted to try. Best of all, the result is a flavorful dish that everyone can enjoy!
- Make sweets like chocolate chip cookies, or try a complex cupcake recipe you found online. Or try making bread.
- Find an old family recipe and try to cook it. If you have kids, teach them how to make Grandma's famous cookies or your own treasured apple pie recipe.
- Try making an ethnic dish you've never tried before. Get out of your comfort zone and have fun in the kitchen.
Step 2. Sew, embroider or crochet
A rainy day is a great time to recover your knitting or crochet projects. You could also sew that dress or pants you wanted.
- Find online guides that teach you how to knit, crochet and sew. Spend the day learning if you've never done these things before. Find a fun motif and make a gift for someone.
- You can crochet many things: finger puppets, blankets, hats, small animals, scarves and much more.
Step 3. Read a book
Spend these rainy days immersed in a good book. Reading is a great way to go on an adventure without leaving your home. Find a book in your library, go to the library, or download one to your electronic reader.
- Whatever your interests, there is a book for you. Do you like western novels? Love stories? History? Thrillers? The horror genre? You may need to take a few minutes to search and read summaries, but you can find the book for you.
- If you're feeling adventurous, pick a book at home off the shelf and start reading. You may be surprised at what you will find.
- If you've recently seen a movie based on a book, read the original book.
- Read about the classics. Pick a book you've always wanted to read, but never had the time to do.
Step 4. Write a story
Use your imagination and write a story. Find the idea of the story and start writing. Have fun creating your world.
- Write a fictional version of something that happened to you. Write a scary story or a love story. Get out of your comfort zone and try to write something of a genre that you haven't thought about writing before.
- If you are not a writer, try drawing or painting a picture.
Step 5. Clean your home
Cleaning is something we always promise ourselves to do, but in some cases we ignore it because we have too many commitments. What better way to take advantage of a rainy day than doing housework? Clean and sort out the parts of the house that really need maintenance. That way, you won't have to worry about cleaning and tidying up when good weather returns.
- Choose a room to tidy up. Or methodically move from room to room.
- Work on projects you never have time for. Tidy up the closet, organize the pantry or clean the garage. Collect clothing and items to donate to charity. Vacuum, wash the windows and clean the bathtub.
Step 6. Take a walk
If you're not afraid of getting wet, grab an umbrella and go for a long walk. Go to a park near your home or visit a friend who doesn't live around the corner. See how different the world is in the rain. Visit a national park or nature reserve. If you live in the city, take a tour of the center with an umbrella.
- One advantage of rainy days is that there will be fewer people around. You can take a nice walk and explore the local beauties without crowds of people around.
- Rainy days also give you the opportunity to wear different clothes. Put that trench coat you've never worn and the dust-gathering boots in your closet.
- Going out for a while and moving around will give you the feeling that you have used the day in a useful way.
- If you like photography, be sure to bring your camera - you may have some inspiration!
Step 7. Organize a movie marathon
Gather friends and family and organize a movie marathon. Pick some classics that kids haven't seen yet, rent lots of new releases, or review your favorites.
- Propose the rainy day theme with movies like Singing in the Rain.
- Choose a genre and propose many films of that type. Plan an action movie day, get scared with horror movies, or have a laugh with classic comedies.
- Instead of a movie marathon, try a TV series marathon. Choose a TV show you want to watch, or retrieve the ones you couldn't watch because of your busy schedule.
Step 8. Plan a day dedicated to games
Gather the family, invite friends and sit down to play board and card games. This is a great opportunity to talk to your loved ones, laugh and have fun with them.
- Try strategy games like Risk or classic games like Monopoly, Scrabble or Cluedo. If there are enough of you, play trump or broom. If you are more, try poker.
- Try video games. A great pastime if you are alone. Invite your best friend and play some video games together, or go online and find people there to challenge.
Step 9. Enjoy the rain
Sit on the porch or terrace with a cup of hot chocolate, tea, or coffee. Hear the sound of the rain and watch it fall. Relax and focus on the climate and not your life.
Part 2 of 2: Entertaining the Children
Step 1. Jump into the puddles
Have the kids put on raincoats and galoshes, or a swimsuit and slippers, and have them jump into the puddles of your street. Race to splash, or play hopscotch from puddle to puddle.
- Create shapes with mud. Build small boats and float them on puddles.
- This activity is not reserved for children. Jumping in puddles is fun for all ages.
Step 2. Organize a treasure hunt
Arrange a series of clues around the house. Each clue will lead to the following. This will keep the children busy looking for the treasure.
- The treasure can be a toy, a treat, a fun activity, or a small reward.
- Children can challenge each other, or they can split into teams and work together to find the treasure.
Step 3. Create an obstacle course in the house
Set up a series of obstacles for the children to overcome. You can include the ones you like - crawling under a table, walking in a straight line along the ribbon on the floor, throwing stuffed animals into a bucket, hopping down the hall, flipping forward, or picking something with your teeth. Ask your children for ideas to find out what you can have with what you have at home.
- Make cardboard medals for the winners.
- Make sure the obstacles are safe. You never want fun to turn into hurt.
Step 4. Give your creativity free rein
Bring out your DIY items and use creativity. Decorate pine cones, make puppets, paint with watercolors, create collages of leaves and use pieces of felt to create a story. The only limit is your imagination.
Let the children choose the art to try. In this way, each child can do something that interests him
Step 5. Make a fort with blankets
Rainy days are ideal for building blanket forts in the living room. Pull some chairs together and put blankets between them and the sofa. Prepare a picnic to keep in your fort.
Turn the day into an indoor camping experience. Put some sleeping bags in the fort and inflate some air mattresses. If you have a small curtain, plant it in the living room
Step 6. Build a cardboard city
Get boxes and pieces of cardboard. Cut and build 3D shapes to make buildings, or create a two-dimensional backdrop. Use markers, crayons, and colored paper to decorate the city. You will be able to build the fire station, the school, skyscrapers, condominiums and houses.
Use miniatures and toy cars in your cardboard town. You can also create these items yourself to populate your city
Step 7. Plan a tea party
Ask the guests to dress up in chic clothes, big hats, gloves and ties. Make tea, bring out the most beautiful china and put doilies on the table.
- Also invite the stuffed animals and imaginary friends of your children. Have them compile the guest list.
- Have the children help you make miniature cakes and mini sandwiches to accompany the tea.
Advice
- Many of the tips from the first method can be turned into activities for children, just as those from the second can be adapted to adults.
- Use the rainy day to catch up on your to-do list. Think of the times you said "I would, if only I had the time …"
- If none of these things seem fun to you, do something you enjoy. Think about your interests and decide what hobbies to try to pass the time.
