You have been diagnosed with diabetes and don't know how to measure your blood glucose level, or you want to test it for another reason. In both cases, follow the steps mentioned in this article.
Steps
Step 1. Follow the directions provided with your meter and lancet and prepare to take a blood sample
Get the test strips and place one to measure glucose.
Step 2. Look at the display to verify that the number displayed is the same as the code on the strip package
Step 3. Take the lancets and place one into the lancing device by selecting the depth you want
Step 4. Wash your hands with soap and warm water
Step 5. Dry your hands well and gently rub the finger you have chosen to prick
Sterilize your finger with an alcohol swab if you can. (Make sure it hasn't been stung too many times before.)
Step 6. Prick your finger to one side
(On the side it doesn't hurt as much as on the tip.) Pull the movable end of the finger pricker (a kind of piston) and place the other end on the finger. Press the button that releases the hand.
Step 7. Gently press your finger to release a drop of blood
Step 8. Apply blood to the end of the test strip
The glucose level will appear on the display.
Step 9. Properly dispose of the lancet and strip carefully in biohazard containers
Step 10. Record your glucose level in your medical book
