If you bought pre-cooked shrimp from the grocery store or need to reheat leftovers, you can use the oven, microwave, or stove after defrosting them. Pre-cooked shrimp can be used to prepare a variety of dishes, including pasta and salads.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Thaw the Shrimp
Step 1. If possible, thaw them in the refrigerator overnight
If you are going to use frozen pre-cooked shrimp, you may want to put them in the fridge so that they defrost overnight and are ready to use in the morning. This is generally the most effective method, so try to implement it whenever you can.
Step 2. Defrost the shrimp in cold water for about 15 minutes
If you're in a hurry and can't leave them in the fridge, you can put them in cold water. Put a bowl in the sink and turn on the tap to fill it. Let them thaw for about 15 minutes.
Step 3. Remove the filaments
Pre-cooked shrimp generally don't have any. However, if they have a dark filament on their back, cut the back of the shell with a pair of scissors. Then, grab the filament with the scissors and gently pull it out of the shrimp.
Part 2 of 3: Reheat the Shrimp
Step 1. Heat them in the microwave for 1 to 2 minutes maximum
Place the shrimp on a microwave-safe dish, spreading them in a single layer without overlapping them. Pour some water on the plate and cover it with cling film. Heat them to the highest temperature for 1 to 2 minutes.
- If they don't heat up enough, you can cook them for another 30 seconds or so;
- Shrimp heated in the microwave will be hot, so it is important to let them cool before serving.
Step 2. If they have already been seasoned, use steam to preserve their flavor
Fill a pot with water and put a steamer or colander in it. Place the shrimp in it. Then, put the pot on the stove and bring the water to a boil. Let them cook until they start to give off their characteristic smell.
Avoid making a pile of shrimp too high and make sure they don't come in contact with water
Step 3. Bake the breaded or coconut coated shrimp in the oven
It is the most effective method for cooking this type of dish. Wrap them softly in aluminum foil and place them on a baking sheet. Cook them for 15 minutes at about 150 ° C.
Step 4. Heat them in a pan
Grease the bottom of a pan with oil and put it on the stove. Distribute the shrimp creating a homogeneous layer. Cook them for 2 or 3 minutes per side.
Part 3 of 3: Using them in the kitchen
Step 1. Prepare the shrimp pasta, a simple, tasty and nutritious dish
Choose the type of pasta you want. Mix it with the shrimp you reheated, then season with Parmesan, garlic and dried basil.
To make an even more nutritious dish, add sautéed vegetables
Step 2. Cook the prawns with garlic and butter, a tasty dish with a delicate flavor
Mix the shrimp with a spoonful of butter and a couple of minced garlic cloves until completely coated. That's all !
Step 3. Serve them as a snack
If you're having a party, reheat pre-cooked shrimp and place them on a plate next to a bowl of pink sauce. Guests can thus enjoy them during the evening.
Step 4. Add them to salads
A salad can be perfect for lunch or dinner. If you want to make it a little more protein, add a handful of shrimp. By filling you up more, it will help you snack less throughout the day.
