Rice can be the central ingredient of a main course or a delicious accompaniment. Unfortunately, it takes time and patience to prepare it perfectly. If you don't feel like waiting at least 20 minutes before it's ready, quick cook rice is the ideal alternative. Since it is pre-cooked, it will only take a few minutes for it to reach the right consistency and flavor. Quick cook rice is available in both white and whole wheat, and you can cook it using the microwave or stove to serve up a delicious hot dish.
Ingrediants
- 200 g of quick-cooking rice, white or wholemeal
- 250 ml of water
- Butter and salt (optional)
For 2 people
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Cook Quick Cook Rice on the Stove
Step 1. Bring the water to a boil
Pour 250ml of water into a medium saucepan and heat it over high heat. Wait for it to come to a full boil (this will take about 5 minutes).
- To cook 200 g of rice you can use a saucepan with a capacity of 2 liters.
- You can cook the rice in vegetable or chicken broth if you want it to be tastier.
Step 2. Add the rice
When the water is boiling briskly, pour 200 g of quick-cooking rice into the pot. Stir to distribute the beans in the water.
If you wish, you can also add a tablespoon (15 g) of butter and a little salt, at the same time you are cooking the rice
Step 3. Cover the pot with the lid and remove it from the heat
After mixing to distribute the rice grains in the boiling water, put the lid on the pot and transfer it to a heat-resistant surface.
Step 4. Let the rice sit for a few minutes
After moving the pot from the hot stove, let the rice soak in the boiling water for 5 minutes or until it has absorbed it completely.
Do not uncover the pot before at least 5 minutes have elapsed, so as not to let the steam trapped under the lid escape
Step 5. Uncover the pot and shell the rice with a fork
When the rice has absorbed all the water, remove the lid from the pot, then take a fork and stir to separate the grains.
Step 6. Serve the rice immediately
When it is well shelled, transfer it to a plate or bowl. Bring it to the table immediately to eat it hot.
Feel free to substitute traditional white rice for quick cooking in whatever recipe you are trying
Method 2 of 3: Quick Cook Brown Rice on the Stove
Step 1. Bring the water to a boil
Pour 250ml of water into a medium saucepan and heat it over high heat. Wait for it to come to a full boil (this will take about 5 minutes).
- A pot with a capacity of 2 liters should be enough to cook the rice for 2 people.
- If you wish, you can use vegetable or chicken broth instead of water.
Step 2. Add the rice and bring the water back to a boil
When the water reaches boiling point, add 200 g of instant brown rice. Stir and wait a couple of minutes for the water to boil again.
If you wish, you can also add a tablespoon (15 g) of butter and a little salt at the same time you cook the rice, to make it tastier
Step 3. Reduce the heat and let the rice simmer for a few minutes
When the water starts boiling again, reduce the heat. Cover the pot and let the rice simmer for 5 minutes.
Step 4. Remove the pot from the heat and stir the rice
When 5 minutes have passed, transfer the pot to a cold surface and stir the rice with a spoon.
Step 5. Put the lid back on the pot and let the rice sit for a few minutes
Cover the pot to hold the steam and let the rice sit for 5 minutes or until it has absorbed all the water.
Step 6. Grain the rice with a fork before eating it
When the water has been completely absorbed, stir the rice with a fork to separate the grains. When the rice is well shelled, transfer it to a bowl and serve hot.
Feel free to substitute traditional brown rice for quick cooking in whatever recipe you are trying
Method 3 of 3: Microwave Quick Cook Rice
Step 1. Pour the water and rice into a large bowl
Use a microwave-safe bowl. Add 200g of quick-cook rice (white or brown) and cover it with 250ml of water, then stir briefly.
- The rice grains will increase in volume as they cook, so use a large bowl, even if it seems disproportionate in size to uncooked rice and water.
- You can use vegetable or chicken broth instead of water if you wish to make the rice tastier.
- If you want, you can also add a tablespoon (15 g) of butter and a little salt at the same time you put the rice to cook.
Step 2. Cover the bowl and microwave the rice for a few minutes
Place a microwave-safe lid or paper towel over the bowl, then cook the rice on full power for 6-7 minutes, depending on the variety.
- Quick-cook white rice takes about 6 minutes to cook.
- Quick cooking brown rice takes about 7 minutes to cook.
Step 3. Remove the bowl from the oven and let the rice rest
At the end of the cooking time, remove the tureen from the microwave, but without uncovering it, so as not to let the steam escape. At this point the rice must rest for 5 minutes or until it has absorbed all the water.
Step 4. Grain the rice with a fork before eating it
When the rice has absorbed all the water, stir it with a fork to separate the grains. Once ready, transfer it to a bowl and serve hot.
