There are dishes that cannot be enjoyed without a slice of good bread, but we don't always have the time to let it rise. When you need fresh and genuine bread in less than an hour, you can try this recipe that will satisfy you. This crunchy and fragrant bread is the perfect match for any meal.
Ingrediants
- 500ml hot (not boiling) water
- 4 teaspoons of instant yeast
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 75ml of oil
- 650g of flour
- 1 and a half teaspoons of salt
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Prepare the Dough
Step 1. pour the water into a bowl
It is important that the water is hot enough, but not hot! Water that is too hot could kill the yeast. The lukewarm one activates the yeast, but does not kill it, and this is what it takes to make the bread rise.
Step 2. Add sugar and yeast
Mix everything with a spoon. The yeast will start interacting with the sugar, and the mixture will become frothy and bubbly in minutes.
- If after 3 minutes nothing happens, maybe your yeast is no longer good and you need to repeat the operation with new yeast.
- You can also try again with warmer or colder water (depending on what water temperature you put in at the beginning).
Step 3. Put the flour in a large bowl
The dose will allow you to prepare two loaves. You can use a generic flour or a specific one for bread. The specific one generally grows more, but a generic flour is fine.
Step 4. Add the oil, salt and yeast mixture
Pour them all over the flour at once.
Step 5. Stir the Dough
You can use a kneader with a special hook, a mixer or a wooden spoon. Keep kneading until you get a large, sticky ball.
Part 2 of 3: Leavening and Kneading the Dough
Step 1. Put the ball of dough in a bowl greased with some oil
You can rinse and grease the bowl you are using, or take a clean one. It should be at least double the size of the dough, so as to contain it all even after rising.
Step 2. Cover the dough and put it in a warm place
Cover it with plastic wrap without tightening it too much (it must not be vacuum packed) or with a clean cloth. Move the bowl to a warm corner of the kitchen. If there are drafts, turn the oven on to 200 degrees, turn it off, and put the bowl in it. It will be the perfect temperature for the dough to rise.
Step 3. Let it rise for 25 minutes
The dough will begin to grow. It won't double in volume, but it will grow enough to give the dough a good texture.
Step 4. Knead the dough
If you have a kneader, use the hook and knead for 5 minutes, until the dough relaxes. If you don't have a mixer, you can work the dough with your hands. Move it on a floured surface and work it with your wrists for about ten minutes, until it relaxes.
- The dough is relaxed when it no longer tends to return to the shape of a ball when you stop your hands. It should appear firm and malleable.
- The dough should also start to look shiny and springy.
Part 3 of 3: Divide and Bake the Loaves
Step 1. Heat the oven to 180 degrees
Step 2. Divide the dough
Roll or squeeze it into a circular shape and cut it in half with a knife, so that you get two crescents.
Step 3. Roll the dough
Place one of the halves on the countertop, with one of the corners facing you. Raise the corner and start rolling the dough away from you, until you get a loaf. Repeat with the other half.
If you don't like this shape, you can make your own, or even divide the dough into several pieces. Make traditionally shaped loaves, rolls, or any other shape you can think of
Step 4. Make cuts on the surface
With a knife, make cuts on the surface of each loaf: cooking will be more even.
Step 5. Place the still raw loaves on baking paper
You can use a cookie sheet, or a special one for bread.
Step 6. Bake for 30 minutes
The bread is ready when the surface appears slightly golden. Serve it with butter and jam or use it to accompany soups and stews.
Step 7. Finished
Advice
- Change the ingredients. Use 260g of self-rising flour, 65g of whole wheat flour, 2-5 teaspoons of flaxseed and a beer for a diet bread.
- Consume it in 2 or 3 days: remember that it does not contain preservatives that make it last a week.
