Did you have some brown sugar in your pantry that has now turned into a single large block? Stop your urge to throw it away and follow these steps to make it usable again.
Steps
Method 1 of 6: Slice of Bread
Step 1. Put the hardened sugar in a resealable plastic food bag
Step 2. Add a slice of soft bread and then close the bag tightly
Step 3. Set it aside for a few hours
When you reopen it, the sugar should be back to its original state.
Method 2 of 6: Microwave
Step 1. Pour the sugar into a bowl suitable for use in the microwave, put it in the oven and turn on the oven for a few seconds
The sugar should quickly become soft again.
Method 3 of 6: Damp Cloth
Step 1. Pour the sugar into a bowl and cover it with a thick, wet kitchen towel
Use this method if you have some time to spare.
Step 2. Let it sit overnight
The next morning it should be soft again.
Method 4 of 6: Apple Slice
Step 1. Put the hardened sugar in a resealable plastic food bag or leave it in its container
Step 2. Add an apple slice and close the bag
This method is similar to that of the soft bread slice.
Method 5 of 6: Aluminum foil
Step 1. Remove a piece of sugar from the heap
Wrap it in aluminum foil.
Step 2. Put it in the oven at a temperature of 150ºC for 5 minutes
Step 3. Remove it from the oven and let it cool
The sugar should be soft again.
Method 6 of 6: Marshmallows
Step 1. Put a marshmallow or two together with the sugar
As long as it is vacuum packed, both a bag and any container are fine.
Step 2. Let it sit
The marshmallows will soften the sugar. Leave them in the container and the sugar will keep soft.
